THE FIRST 3 IMO ARE EASY TO PICK (with Nolen out)

CHIP
HOFF
MBAK

the next two are a lil tougher to choose. I'll go with

RALPH &
MO

I've seen enough of Chip now - start him at the point.

Mav has done OK but I'd like to see Chip at the point.

I haven't given up on Devoe. I remember his 3rd game in Canada was a monster.

Maybe he can have his 3rd game in Philly be a monster too.

Do you seriously think Chip can play PG in the Big 10? I've seen nothing to indicate he could handle that. Besides, with any luck Al and Devoe will both be available then. No reason for Chip to be playing PG.

I'd take:

Chip
Hoff
Devoe

Mbakwe
RS3/Colt (depending on how Tubby feels)

This keeps our options wide open with the Bigs, and puts our best scorers on the floor. Just my opinion...

Could have Hollins in as well, but I think the experience of Devoe/Hoff wins out for first team.

I'm not sure. But I sure like the way he plays. I harken back to some relentless/endless threads about whether Chip played point or not - I think they were about 6 months ago. IIRC FOT was an integral part.

I'd like to see him play there. From what I have seen I think he should be getting 20+ minutes per game. Not sure exactly where but point seems OK to me. I understand your skepticism tho. JMO.

I can't see Chip at PG, but he does need to see more minutes. He's such a spark and can finish around the rim which is great to see. Williams just looks completely lost, what a disappointment thus far. Mav has a decent shot, but he can't defend and is a little scary with the ball. I've really liked Hollins, he must have had 3 or 4 steals tonight. I'd like to see him get more shots as well. Mo has played pretty well, but he's so slow and gets tired too fast. If he gets in shape, he will be a major factor by the time he is done at the U. Sorry, I got off subject a bit.

I have posted a few comments on Chip. I think I have been pretty accurate so far. On Chip's chances of running the point, like the old saying goes, are slim and none and slim just got on the bus. I wouldn't be surprised if the need arises that the coaching staff may look at that possibility, but Chip likes to release up the court and catch in space so he can attack the rim. He may have the skills to handle the point for a few minutes, but his is definitely more comfortable at the 2 guard because of his scorer's mentality.

I watched Chip during high school and he almost never played the point. He very much has a scorers mentality. I believe also that he could play the point sparingly but he is more used to being the shooting guard . Either way I believe he has been a great late addition to Minnesotas program.

Leaving Devoe off the list is a mistake IMO. I just stated in another thread but merits stating again. We need a guy with ice in his veins at the end of the game. Devoe sealed the win for us last night.

I was lucky enough to not see the VA game. I have it on DVR but I doubt I will get around to watching it. So my Devoe observation this year is fairly limited. But he looks like he is struggling to me. My most reliable is just a list of players that to me have shown the most consistent and reliable play taking into consideration the minutes played.

I am hopeful Devoe has a big game against St. Joe and breaks into my reliable/consistent bunch.

Like I mentioned his 3rd game in Canada exhibitions was a monster game. Maybe his 3rd game this season will get him back on track. He did have some very crucial shots in the game last night. I'm just looking for a lil more consistency.

Virginia Game

Dont watch Devoe that game. Watch RS III and if you do have a bucket next to you so you can puke. I was there his effort was brutal. His shoulders were slouched. He gets pushed underneath the hoop when he has inside position on a freet throw...

and the worst thing? He does all of this while his fellow big man Trevor is busting his ARSE and playing with passion. Ralph faced some size against Virginia and he curled up.

Ralph got off to a good start but he needs to pick it up. Last night against Cornell and their 6'6 center he was giving up backside boards in crunch time.

Colton does work is a-ss off. Ralph gets beat on the boards continually, but Colton gives up the baseline drive way to often.

Fresh Trout good call- Colt does that especially on the right base line and the guy he is guarding is right handed!

I'll take former Minnesota Mr. Basketball Jordan Taylor at PG. Just kidding. Seriously though, I don't think Chip can play PG. He's more of a free-wheeling athlete who can make plays. I don't think he can run this team. Bottom line is this: Minnesota simply does not have a good option behind Nolen. It's not like we are going to find this magical combination of players and Minnesota's PG issues will be solved. The PG issues will be solved when Nolen comes back in three weeks.
