It has been touched on before but I would say poor scheduling could be a factor in the Michigan State game. By that time the gophers will have played about one game in three weeks. How can they not be rusty going into the game. Not sure about MSU's schedule. Hopefully they are in the same situation but I doubt it. And to top it off Tubby benches his starters for a good portion of the only game they played. I thought the starters needed alot more work than they got. Just hope they dont start off vs MSU the way they did this past Saturday because of being rusty or we may not be able to catch up.

It is a worry of mine as well Doc1001. We had a very heavy late November/early December schedule, but I would have liked to see us play a game on the 27th or 28th. It's also a challenge to simulate game pace/intensity so it will take a bit for our guys to get their legs underneath them. Michigan State will be coming off the same time-off from yesterday, but they had a bit fuller schedule just prior.

Let's hope The Barn is rocking.

Go Gophers!!

We really need Andre to step up and hit shots, create easy baskets for Trev and Rodney. If Andre can get us 15 to 20 points and dish 5 or 6 assists, we'll coast. I'm a little worried that Andre will struggle trying to get our offense into gear. Hopefully Austin will be fully healed from his strained groin and ready to chip in with some penetration and smart, efficient play. Hopefully the game will be a sellout and the crowd will be rocking.

For the most part, Tubby should put on the Gold versus Maroon fulltime game leading up to MSU, 4 nights before the B1G opener,on December 27, 2012. Our 2nd teamers are better than most other OOC 1st teamers. Let them play a regulation game with Ted Valentine reffing, and open it up to the public, free of charge.

But, Moses would worry. :)

I worry because we only get 1 shot at this season, Doc...Next year, we'll have huge holes in the front court and in all likelihood, we'll struggle to be in the Tourney...This could be the season of dreams and also the season that helps keep our studs (Jones, Vaughn, Travis) home.

And as of now, there are many things we need to improve upon to reach our potential, which is vast. I don't wanna see our potential squandered as it has in so many seasons before. We got 1 shot at this.

Moses, I am sorry, but you are displaying the epitome of pessimism. I truly hope you don't live your life this way. Life is too short to live in a world of worry. Worry is wasted energy.

Moses' pessimism feeds my optimism. The more he grasps at straws to come up with reasons we will lose, the more I feel like we are going to win.

Maybe I should drink more.

Nix and Payne

My main worry is Nix and Payne both played really well in their last game (Texas). That's the area I think Izzo will attack the Gophers, inside. Do we have enough beef/physical presence (other than Mbakwe) to handle those two if they play as well as they did vs. Texas?

Nix and Payne have been just as much miss as hit this season, so I hope that's the case on New Year's Eve.

Mich St matchups

Michigan St. once again a great rebounding team (30th in the country). As usual a good defensive team. They are not a good outside shooting team (31% on 3's). They do not have a ton of depth. In their best win over Kansas, Appling went for 19 and Harris had 18 and they shot 52% from the floor as a team. In their bad loss at Miami, they shot 41% and only got to the line 11 times and Nix and Payne combined for 7 pts total. Nix and Payne both mostly play the 5 spot and do not play together that much. Nix cannot move his feet very well on defense. If you can keep him from getting touches on the block you win that matchup.

So you have Andre vs Appling. IF Andre can make that one a draw we win pretty easy.
Austin vs Harris. Harris is the better offensive player. I hope Austin's groin is healed.
Valentine vs Coleman is a draw.
Dawson vs Rodney is a great athletic matchup. Rodney has the experience and I hope he can win this battle.
Nix vs Trevor. Post scoring is about even. Every other facet of the game should go Trevor's way (rebounding, quickness, 10ft jump shots, etc)

In my opinion, I would take our inside 2 of Rodney and Trevor over their two of Dawson and Nix.
Bench for mich st: Payne, Trice, Bird. I'd take gophers: EE, Welch, Mav, Ingram, Oto, Walker.

We do need either: EE, Walker, or Ingram to have a strong physical game.

Pass out free drink coupons to Nix and Payne at Stub and Herbs....only good at a pre- tip off party.
