The times, they are a-changin'. It goes to show you how Kill's entire organizational structure is like nothing we have seen in the past. I continue to be amazed at how amazed I am. This guy really knows what he's doing, and the last guy didn't:

"...Adam Clark as Director of Player Personnel, Billy Glasscock as Director of Recruiting Operations and Josh Sternquist to retain his role as an assistant recruiting coordinator. The structure of Kill’s recruiting operation is certainly a change from the Brewster regime.

Under Brew, RC Dan Berezowitz would initially evaluate prospects and forward information on to Brewster, who would consult with his position coaches about the recruit but would ultimately make the decision to offer himself.

With Kill, Anderson and Griffin – two former position coaches – perform the initial evaluations, consult with the position coaches, forward the information on to the coordinators and ultimately to the head coach; the decision to offer comes as a group decision but, from all the information available, doesn’t necessarily have to come from Kill (i.e. the position coaches and coordinators whom will work with said recruits have final say). As for the information/authority flow, it appears as though everything flows through Clark, who will have the dual responsibility of bringing players into the program and overseeing their development while they’re on campus. Lastly, Glasscock and Sternquist have more logistical duties rather than evaluation roles."

I am amazed to hear that you are amazed at being amazed. It sounds like things were quite disfunctional throught the eternal turnover of top assistant coaches. Nearly any change in coaching was bound to result in a lot of before/after differences with the program. Like most people, I am pleased to see what has been happening since Kill has come on board. I am trying to balance this with the gold tinted glasses I am always wearing.

The differences that you see are the result of getting some one with a blueprint and not a sketch. Coach Kill knows what he wants and exactly how to get there.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see these changes as that earth-shattering. I'm more concerned about the people making the decisions than the organizational and information-flow charts. The big thing here, to me, is that the position coaches will be, at least from the description, brought into the conversation sooner.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that Brewster was a control-freak. Perhaps that contributed to the turnover in coordinators.

I'm with you 50Pound. Each coach is going to have his own philosophy and this has worked for Kill. Hopefully it won't be for a long time but the guy after Kill will probably do things differently as well.

I am amazed to hear that you are amazed at being amazed..

And I am amazed to learn that you are amazed to hear that highwayman continues to be amazed at how amazed he is. The amazement never ends!!

I couldn't be more pleased with the amazement.

And not a very "good" control freak...

It is becoming increasingly apparent that Brewster was a control-freak. Perhaps that contributed to the turnover in coordinators.

Starting from year one with DC, Everett Withers, Brewster continually lost coordinators as they either quit on him or he eventually fired them (Mike Dunbar).

Obviously Brewster tried to "micromanage" the coordinators and they found better jobs sooner (Withers) or later (Dunbar - now at New Mexico State). Either way, they're both better off not working for the Head Bullchitter at the U of M, now gone of course. I'll bet they both thank their lucky stars they aren't with Brewster anymore!

Leaders...

There are some people that simply have a plan and can execute it better than others. Kill just reminds me of someone that you learn to respect. I think Brewster was given a lot of initial respect because of his tremendously impassioned speeches. It was also what a lot of people wanted to hear.

I think it's significant that a leader uses input from their peers that may have better know how than they do. Being a Head Coach doesn't really mean you know how to coach TE's or D-Linemen. Being a Head Coach means they find someone that can execute on their vision.

I think Kill is following a precise plan. We all have to wait and see if the results of his efforts are worth anything. There are no guarantees and if he failed there would be some that will be more than glad to say, I told you so! I just think Kill seems to be organized in all the aspects of his job that he needs to be.. He's also more proven than Brewster in all facets, so he's got that going for him...

I love that position coaches and then coordinators are doing the primary evaluations...Kill has brought his team and who he believes in and who know what they need for the system they run...this frees the HC to do more closing in the living room and on the phone and spending more time selling the program to high school coaches and parents.

Plus I believe we will get better evaluation with so many coaches looking at the tape...find more kids that can grow into our system and contribute in years 3-5.

I think being amazed about how amazed someone can be about being amazed. Amazing and yet, so tremendous!

I am amazed how many Gopher fans love to piss on a former Gopher coach who spent every waking moment for three years trying to win football games and telling anyone who would listen that there is absolutely NOTHING preventing the Minnesota Gophers from winning Big 10 Championships and going to the Rose Bowl. Particularly when the former Gopher coach's predecessor spent ten years making excuses for why the Gophers can't win Big 10 Championships and return to the Rose Bowl.

Yep!

On the walls of Kill's office he has poster boards of what he needs to do to make this thing work.

I'm continually amazed that Tim Brewster still posts amazingly thinly veiled posts on Gopherhole and that amazingly enough, Tim Brewster does not realize there was at least one element that had a tremendously amazing ability to keep the Gophers from winning the Big 10 and that element was the less than amazing Tim Brewster.

not that big of a deal either way. at the start of the brew era we were all in love with his recruiting strategy, 24/7/365, remember that? now this is the better way? come on. none of us know what works and what doesn't in recruiting. some pay for services to make themselves feel like an insider, some don't, some don't care about recruiting at all, and others seem to care more about wins in feb. than they do in october. but we're all fans so we want to believe in this theory. we wanted to believe in stars before and now we want to believe in diamond in the roughs and coaching them up. but at the end of the day none of us know one way or the other what will work.

I will hold my applause for this format until I see the results. We heard a lot of talk about Brewster being a master recruiter and that "amazement" dwindled after the first year. I like that Coach Kill has a plan, but let's see if it works before we claim that he has revolutionized the recruiting process.

I agree with this. Brewster may not have been up to the job, but it wasn't for lack of effort. Remember the posts on the 'hole that expressed disappointment when it appeared Marcus Coker was going to be a Gopher? His offer list wasn't that impressive (just Iowa and a couple other BCS schools) and he was only a 3 star. Now, we have posters who believe the Kill method to recruiting is better when I don't believe any of his commits have been offered by another Big Ten school.

I think I'll wait to see if recruiting improves before I claim that the new system is superior to that of Coach Brewster's.

His effort must of been somewhere other than trying to win football games, because he sure couldn't do that.

I'll never forget the first spring scrimmage under Brew at the Dome. the most boring offensive football I've ever seen. Then the fall camp scrimmage at St. Johns and the most poorly run practice I've ever seen. Then the first game with Bowling Green and the worst coaching job ever. He did not know what the hell he was doing. A bunch of hot air and now we have someone whom I guarantee knows exactly what he is doing. the level of stars a player has means nothing compared to the level of coaching he receives and the in-game management.

This. +1000. The Emporer was utterly naked.
