Must be the humidity:

MURFREESBORO — MTSU redshirt freshman quarterback Brent Stockstill will make his first career start on Saturday when the Blue Raiders host Jackson State.

The announcement came during MTSU's press conference on Monday morning.

Stockstill, a Siegel graduate, is the son of MTSU coach Rick Stockstill.

Brent Stockstill and 2014 starter Austin Grammer have been in an intense battle for the starting spot since spring practice, taking equal snaps with the first team.

Grammer started all 12 games in 2014 when MTSU went 6-6, becoming bowl eligible for the third straight season.

Just because his dad is the coach it doesn't mean he didn't actually beat Grammer out for the job. If anything he probably had to work even harder to get the nod because there is no way that Rick Stockstill is going to want to get destroyed for starting his son at QB if he didn't earn it. In high school coaches can play favorites but at this level there is so much scrutiny that he is opening himself up to a massive black eye if his son fails.

I remember Grammer being decent last year but nothing special.

This is just like when Homer Simpson named Bart starting QB over Nelson.

Good practice, kids. Now it's time for the easiest part of any coach's job. The cuts. Although I wasn't able to cut everyone I wanted to, I have cut a lot of you. Wendell is cut. Rudy is cut. Janey, you're gone. Steven, I like your hustle that's why it was so hard to cut you

Congratulations, the rest of you made the team! Except you, you and you.
