I was trolling on some of the MTSU blogs and came across some interesting finds. Here is one particular quote I found. "If Minnesota fans want to discuss the matchups with actual merit, it would be nice. They are relying on the perception of the Big 10 vs. the Sun Belt to try to convince us that Middle has no shot. Fortunately for us, conferences don't play the games . . . teams do."

These fans are giving the Big Ten props but implying the Gophers don't even belong in the Big Ten. I really hope that Dasher plays and we put a beat down on them. We are Bigger, Faster, Stronger, and play a lot tougher schedule year in and year out! I would love to be able to go to that game and let those Hillbilly fans know how we do it in the Big Ten. GO GOPHERS and I can't wait until Sept 2nd.

Don't let the opinions of people who couldn't get in to UW-Stout get you riled. They also think getting routinely blown out by Troy compares to losing at Ohio State and that their heat is always above average.

Simple solution. Don't troll the blogs (or boards) of opposing teams. Especially teams from a non-BCS conference who view every game against a BCS school as their chance to prove they belong. That's a recipe for crazy posts from some, not all, fans of those schools.

Because the differences between the Big Ten and the Sun Belt are only perception...

They aren't obligated to respect us. I really prefer they don't, it's an advantage for us.

GoAUpher has a very good point, but if you'd like to find the poll that was ran here awhile back where the vast majority of GH'ers thought it would be a close game against a good opponent, that throws their opinion into the dumper big time.

well that post wasn't really disrespectful but remember that the only thing they probably know about MN is what the national writers are saying, which is that we're pretty much the worst team in the B10. MTSU fans should feel that their team is good enough to beat the worst team in the B10

It's the crowing about beating Maryland (#97 Sagarin) and Southern Miss (#77 Sagarin) as if they are epic victories that is odd. Granted, we did lose to #94 Illinois. But we were embarrassed that the SDSU (#101) game was close. Eight of MTSU's wins were against teams with that Sagarin rated lower than SDSU. If we played their schedule, we'd probably be 10-3 too. But it is a game that we could lose, we generally have more respect for MTSU than they have for us.

Who cares what they think? More Minnesota insecurity at work...

I remember hearing last year that we were going to be crushed by Syracuse.

It's frustrating to listen to, but it makes victory (even a squeaker against Syracuse) all the more satisfying.

Both sides have their share of delusional fans. That's how it always will be.

We have our homers that insist we're going to beat you by three scores, and you have yours that suggest that the Gophers will destroy us.

I absolutely respect Minnesota as an opponent. As a supporter of a school that's only been FBS for 10 years and is just now trying to establish a name for itself, it would be silly for me to be overconfident about beating a Big Ten club.

I think it will be a competitive game, and I believe we can win. Best of luck to the Gophers, and I hope those of you making the trip find us hospitable.

I honestly don't see anything wrong with that quote. It is true, though. I've seen a few Gopher fans using the "we're in the Big Ten, you're in the Sun Belt" thing.

The only thing wrong with the quote is that they think our fanbase isnt giving MTSU a chance in this game. It seems to me the majority opinion on this board believe that MTSU has a chance to win - if not the many that point out that MTSU (at least was) a favorite.

I do think you have to "pro-rate" the records of both teams. MTSU's record would not likely be 10-3 if they played our schedule. It doesn't mean I don't think they are a decent team.

You complain about a lack of respect and then call them hillbillies? Seems kind of ironic.

I don't blame any team we play against thinking they can beat us. These last three years we have done nothing to make opponents think that we will blow them out or they can't beat us. Who cares what their fans think? That's what makes sports so great. Anything can happen on any given day. I would be more worried if MTSU thought they would lose to the Gophers. Then I know they would not be overconfident for the game. We need to stop whinning about what the other teams fans think, and we need to start winning more games on the football field.

Who cares what either fan base thinks, the last time I checked the game will be decided on the field by the two teams.

Totally false. Everyone knows the games are decided on the message boards.

No Respect?

Personally, I'm not going to give MTSU any respect. Gophers win by 3 TDs and Kilgore crashes and burns.

I'll be at the game and have as much infuence on the game as Dwight Dasher will. How's that for disrespect?

Good luck to you Raiders, you will need it...

The follow-up thread after the game should be quite interesting.

I think that MTSU will be in a hole by the time Kilgore shakes the rust off of himself.
