MSU's Bullough suspended for Rose Bowl

That is amazing and it will haunt him till the day he dies. What an epic screw up.

i feel really bad for the family, i mean his grandpa, his dad, uncle, little brother all play or have played for the spartans and his other little brother will play for them next year, his grandpa actually played MSU's first Rose Bowl, they were all looking forward to watching him play in the Rose where MSU hadn't been in forever, wow, that would be like if a player of Ra'shede's caliber but with Arron Hill or Mike Rallis's leadership, maturity and work ethic screwed up and couldn't play in the biggest game in their collegiate career and probably their entire career

Props to Coach Dantonio for making a decision that's best for the team long term. Not sure what the kid did, but I respect the coaches that make the hard choice to send the kid home no matter how important he was to the team...

Agree. Urban Meyer would have probably suspended him for the first snap.

My first thought. D'Antonio always has a look on his face of a constipated man trying to push out the last inch, but I think he's a top-notch coach and, at least to me, this only adds to his luster.

Shhh...that doesn't fit the made-up "Urban is a cheater" narrative.

yeah, LOL, he also kicked off 2 freshman from the team that were 4 star recruits at the beginning of the season but if you're playing the devil's advocate i guess you would argue that they were only freshman and didn't make any contributions to the team and it was an easy decision, it wasn't a star player so it doesn't count

he did suspend Hyde for 3 games for accusation of assault of a woman when charges weren't even filed though, and Roby too

The argument could be made that that is different because it was public knowledge. It's a different level in my opinion when you suspend someone for something no one knows about.

Not making an argument for or against Meyer, just pointing that out only.

Help me out -- didn't Mason send a player home from a bowl game once? I have a vague memory of some player violating a team rule, so they put him on a bus and sent him home.

Any idea what year or which player it was? -- or am I hallucinating again?

it was the sun bowl (our second sun bowl appearance) - can't remember the player though - put him on a bus from el paso to his home town in Ohio

The best thing for the long term would probably be playing one of their best defensive players and winning a rose bowl. Dantonio has integrity, however. If he suspended Bullough......he probably deserved it. Sends a strong message to the rest of the team.

Rumors in East Lansing are a failed drug test and that it wasn't the first occurrence.

sometimes it takes balls to do whats right and im glad dantonio has more sack than a guy like urban meyer who dances around the rules for his own benefit

If he failed a drug test, how many more players are into drugs on the team? D'antonio is sending a strong message that you are not above the team no matter how good a player you are, that the program is about integrity.

If that's true, that would fly in the face of "Dantonio did the right thing". It means that Bullough did not follow team protocols that allow a player to take PE drugs and pass the tests.

I would not apply for Dantonio sainthood quite yet.

PE=Performance Enhancing?
I should have clarified, weed is what lead to the failed test. Lots of schools have a 3 strikes and you are out rule, general public never hears about 1 and 2.

If he was entering an eating contest, that could be performance enhancing.

Some irony that Bullough's younger brother (Riley) may end up getting quite a few snaps as his replacement, though senior Kyler Elsworth likely will get the first crack at "replacing" Bullough.

I feel bad for Bullough. He's been the face of the MSU program for the last two seasons, but these can be the consequences when you make a stupid decision(s) that not only affects you, but also your family, teammates, and coaches. Just can't fathom putting four years of hard work into reaching a singular goal (Big Ten title/Rose Bowl), and then tossing it all out the window all for the sake of some weed or whatever it was. Seems pretty obvious it wasn't a legal matter, as I'm sure reporters would have dug it up by now if he had beat the h*ll out of someone or something like that.

In the end, as it is for any team dealing with this type of situation, the hard reality is it's next man up. Life goes on without you/me.

I don't have many connections, but the one that I do have said the same thing that it was weed.

I have read that the problem is an addiction to painkillers. Could have interesting implications for their program.
