So why is it that it's a blocking foul to move at all when setting a screen, but it was ok for Virginia's double screen to let the offensive player pass between them and then move to close the gap as the defender attempted to chase? Is the proper D to barge through, assuming the moving screen is called? If they call the chasing defender for the collision it makes that double pic nearly undefendable.

As long as the screeners aren't moving at the point of contact with the defender I'm pretty sure it is legal. The double screen worked yesterday because the defender was too far behind the shooter which gave the screeners time to close the gap.

Yes, UVa did a few "moving screens" yesterday, but usually they are not called, and that had little to do with our loss. To defeat double-screens, by the way, the defenders need to communicate better and to do help defense. On that note, I've never understood why Tubby refuses to use more double screens to get his shooters (Hoffarber, Joseph, formerly Westbrook and Mac) open when they're being defended closely.

Not talking about the typical staggered double screen

but the split screen Virginia ran. I don't blame that for the loss, at all. I'm just curious how it might be defended if the two screeners are allowed to move after the offensive player passes between them. Does the defender need to be "hot on the heels" of the offensive player and force more contact as the screeners pinch together? If not, and the defender gets that foul call, it's a brilliant play and impossible to defend without one of the post defenders flying out to challenge the shot (very challenging and not likely). Our defenders just stopped, with no way to get out on the shooter. Could be a creative way to get Hoffarber more open looks.
