Awesome halftime show today band!! The Mound of Sound was fantastic!! Even the Nebraska fans were getting into it.

Well done.

Go Gophers!!

Seriously? Who cares? It was a football game, not a band concert.

Sorry if this offended you. I try to make the subject headlines as descriptive as possible when I post as I know there is so much content on here and people need to decide what threads they want to read and what threads they don't. When I posted the title "Mound of Sound from the U band!!" my intent was that those that are interested in the game day atmosphere, halftime show, etc. would click on it. If you thought that the body of this thread would be bashing Kill, talking about Gray or the recruiting class than I apologize.

As far as "who cares" - well, from past posts, quite a few band members read this board and it's great to show appreciation for their hard work - especially when it was the only thing to really show enthusiasm for in the first half.

Stan the Caddy, please let me know if there is a way I could have been more descriptive on the post headline as I'm always looking for ways to make it easier on busy people when I post.

Go Gophers!!

Agree! A highlight of the day for sure!

Bleed-

My bad. I should not have even commented. I just find it odd when so many on here discuss the Band. It is a football forum. This is coming from someone who was in both the band and football while in HS. I am just not that interested in discussing the
formations during halftime as compared to the actual game.

#2Gopher- how is my comment shallow? It is a football game, right?

The game was so awful that the 4 most entertaining parts were

1) Mound of Sound halftime show
2) Kiss-cam
3) Pet of the game
4) The 2 people winning the $1k and $500 on the field kicking

Then we should stop talking about things Maturi says/does that don't directly relate to the team. Or stop talking about tailgating, the stadium, the bar scene, opposing fans, opposing teams, etc etc etc...

It ALL has to do with college football and the experience of the day at the stadium.

Oh yeah and they were truly the only good thing on the field with a Minnesota uniform on today, as far as I can hear from people who were there.

Rail-

Joel Maturi's decisions directly influence what happens to the football program. The band doing a Dave Matthews tribute does
not.

One of the things Kill is trying to do is change and improve the game experience (Yea I know, it is ultimately about the game) and the band is part of that. I personally found the half time show a welcome break that allowed people to enjoy the half time. Anything that can improve the game experience does count. It is as simple as that.

Marching Bands are part of the fabric of college football that sets it apart from the NFL, they are integral to the game day atmosphere and are as important as cheerleaders and tailgating.

I was watching it from the concourse area and was thinking how much I enjoyed college football more then pro. The marching band is a big part of it.

You add credibility to his stupid comment by arguing about it. Just ignore him and move on.

I haven't missed a Gopher football home game with my family in 12 years. Without the Marching Band, Cheerleaders/Dance Line, Goldy, and watching the antics in the Student Section, I would not have attended even one Gopher game. If the only thing I want to watch and experience is football I would have Viking season tickets instead. And many of the most entertaining and informative threads in GopherHole are about the "Game Day Experience" and not directly related to the players, coaches, recruiting, and football games.

Well stated, G4B.

You clearly take something different away from the CFB experience. Maybe you don't live in MN and can't go to games so non-game stuff doesn't matte.? Maybe you only care about the game. Dunno. That's cool, it's your experience and that means you get to care about the stuff you want to care about.

But in case you haven't noticed, a LARGE population of the posters enjoy the whole experience. Find it odd all you want, but for most people the whole experience is what keeps college FB from being NFL Lite. If you aren't interested in discussing it then you should go back to the 2nd sentence in the post I'm quoting and take your own advice. ;)

Born and raised in Minnesota. Decade long season ticket holder. Missed 1 game since the Bank opened.

I already admitted I was wrong for bringing it up. What more do you people want? I was frustrated after the game and could not take any joy out of any part of the entire experience on Saturday. Leave me alone band geeks!

Continuing to respond just may not be the best way to get a subject to end. All I will say if if you took away the marching band, there would be a couple million college football fans around the country with pitchforks and torches.

I am not asking the marching band to go away. You people are amazing, I am not asking it to go away. I am actually having some fun with the conversation. Please read my last post. I apologized, I should not have even brought it up. My position is that for me personally, the band is far down on the list of reasons of why I like college football. Just a personal choice. A lot disagree with that and that is fine. I respect your position, it would be nice of some respected mine. I am now done with this thread/topic. Thanks Rodent.
