Most valuable schools

Two questionable things about this report:

1) The data is from FY 11-12. I don't know about any other school, but our year starts and ends in September, so this would be last year's data for us as compared to this year's data for a team who runs on the calendar year.

2) If value to the conference is a weighted variable, there is no way the teasips should be on top of this list. They directly caused the loss of Nebraska and Texas A&M, and also CU and Mizzou, replacing them with WVU and TCU. That doesn't seem like a win for the Big 12.

The forbes breakdown explains the way they determined value is, "the money generated for through it's athletic department, it's universities academic programs, other conference teams, and the local business community".

It seems strange they would include academic programs, and local businesses. And I agree with your point, TexasAggie, with the "value" of the Big12 trending downwards, it will start to hurt these overall numbers.

I also don't know anything about it but I have heard that the longhorn network has been a major disappointment for them.

Clearly they don't factor in the intangible value of our fanbase being able to imbibe on beer IN STADIUM during a bad loss. That's huge in my book.

You can't even pick up the LHN on campus, especially not in the pressbox of DKR Memorial, from what I've heard.

The AD can't even get it in his own home.

Mack Brown has been quoted as saying how much he hates it.

They have to air UTSA games and bully their conference mates into creating content for them.

They are so desperate for content that they are airing a skycam-only view of the Alamo Bowl, coupled with the radio play-by-play.

There's only so much volleyball and Colt McCoy/Vince Young cooking shows one can tolerate. LHN may go down in history with similar esteem as Crystal Pepsi.

TX single handedly ruined the Big 12. I don’t blame A&M, Mizzou, CO, and Neb. for bolting to greener pastures. TX’s greed is unprecedented. Although the Big 12 exit fees are a spit in a rainstorm compared to other financial considerations like TX’s insistence on their own network, I think what went down with the exit fees was appalling and really showed the greenhorn$ true colors. As I recall, Iowa St., Mizzou, and the Kansas schools offered (begged?) the greed-horn$ not to leave the Big 12 by offering their share of the CO & Neb exit fees to the greenhorn$. Instead of doing the classy thing and saying “thanks but no thanks” to their less fortunate brethren, the greed-horn$ took it. Sick, sick, sick!
