I would post a poll, but there have been so many...

Some of my favorites that I've seen: Mount Union guy, UW Whitewater guy, UMD guy, U St. Thomas guy, the OTHER Ryan brother (in the NFL), Marc Trestman, Tony Dungy, and half of Army Gopher's list from tonight. (Note - Army Gopher, no offense; if you in fact are in the Army, I thank you sincerely for your service and sacrifices.)

OK - Mike Grant doesn't count because I keep posting his name in response to all of these other absurd suggestions.

Please - post your favorites as well. I'm sure there are others I haven't seen, but would love to know who they are.

David Gibbs, Jeff Horton (thanks for the last few weeks, but come on...), Brad Childress, Mike Tice, etc.

The only name left that hasn't been mentioned is Joel himself! I mean, he was a HC at Edgewood HS I believe. Farley's HC if I recall.

Go Gophers!!

I also believe (though maybe not seriously) that it was mentioned by some that they would like ol' Glen Mason back.

The lady who sits next to me said she wanted Trestman and Mason. I think it was the first time I face-palmed myself directly in front of someone and didn't care about the repercussions.

Mike Grant, hands-down... When I filled in once last month, two callers on 1500-ESPN legitimately wanted him.

Guy who sits in front of me said the Gophs were insane for not hiring Dungy and Gruden. I told him he was a moron and to not speak to me about Gopher football again.

BTW, Gruden needs to be on this list, as does Cowher, both of whom were mentioned very early on.

That's laughable. Clearly Minnesota should hire Brad Anderson of Wayzata. He just won his 4th 5A state title.;)

Honestly, outside of Mike Grant, I think Trestman would be the worst idea. I would honestly rather have the U announce Bob Nielson or the guy at Whitewater than Trestman.

I'm pulling for Wayne Fontes

That coach from Friday Night Lights might do a good job. I believe his name is Coach Taylor.

Coach Taylor walked into a good program at Dillon and has just done OK at East Dillon. I'd rather go after Coach Bud Kilmer, he's unemployed.

Kevin Sumlin

What makes him the most absurd is the hype surrounding a coach with only three years experience at Houston of all places.

stevedave23: are you serious? most absurd? Virginia, Kansas, and Cin. all wanted him last offseason... that means something... Colorado calling to gauge his interest two weeks ago means something... winning at No. 5 Okla. St. last year means something... experience in the Big Ten, and at MN, means something... the staff he could put together means something... being a co-coordinator at Okl. means something. Maybe you are overrating this job. Unless they break the bank for Mullen, can't do much better than Sumlin.

Sumlin is certainly a viable candidate. That said, I would rather have Edsall or Hoke or Golden if we enter that tier. If Sumlin was hired, I would quietly whisper.. "f$$k me".. and then muster the energy to get fully behind Sumlin and renew my tickets. That said, is that the reaction we want from a hire?

Ok maybe not "most absurd" but certainly "most overrated" in my eyes.

Houston's Record Under Kevin Sumlin: 23-16
Houston's Record Previous Three Years Before Sumlin: 24-15

OK, I don't agree, but see where you're coming from... keep in mind, he played a handful of games this year with a 3rd-string QB... but his ability, or lack there of, to help scheme defenses can certainly be raised. Here, I'd think he'd hire the right def. coord., but certainly debatable.

I see your point too. I just get the feeling this is a guy who's leveraged his situation of being a young coach with ties to MN who took over a program that was already in good shape.

While we're supposed to be looking for an established head coach who preferably has a history of turning around a program (both Maturi's words) this guy screams "hype" and "hot name."

Adam Kelly! err sorry, he wants to be AD, err I'm confused just what does he want???

TCF - I'm happy to get the publicity, but you'll note that I didn't say some of these names were likely. Right? Would like to hear your guess, and why...

Nope, not in the Army currently, but spent a good part of my adult life doing that. Thanks for your comments!

Beat Iowa. Beat Wisconsin. Beat Navy.

Go Gophers!!

He did coach 3 of the Farley brothers at Edgewood High.
