I didn't want to hijack the other thread so I thought I'd start a new one. Does anyone know if Moses switching to a postion other than quarterback has been considered? Granted I know nothing about his abilities at anything other than quarterback but his body size would seem to make for a beast of a tight end.

Being that Gray is such a question mark in his quarterback abilities right now I don't think we can afford to switch Alipate to TE yet. Maybe if Parrish impresses next year and Gray turns out he can read defenses we can switch Moses by his junior year.

I saw him at Tubby's Tipoff and he is a very big kid. With that said I have no idea if they plan to move him or keep him at QB. I guess the way it looks is he would compete with Gray in 2 years and most likely start his senior year.

I highly doubt you can write Alipate off like that. He is really flying under the radar right now and believe me he has just as good of a chance to start next year.

he does have a big arm and projects as that prototype pro-style qb.

WTF?! A little too much reading into the article, don't you think? He hasn't played yet because he doesn't have complete grasp of a complex offense, and now "there's a question mark in his quarterback abilities?"

Wow.

I would like to know how Moses is transitioning into the offense. Everyone seems to forget he was highly rated across all the recruiting services, including a ESPN 150 ranking. He has everything you desire in a QB, including the Leadership qualities that Gray is really lacking in. 6'5 250 QB who can scramble and throws a Bullet.

Yeah, I agree. Gray's more athletic than Alipate, but it'll ultimately come down to who is a better passer.

Once again, we have experts already judging the abilities of certain players, when in fact, those experts do not have a clue what the hell they are talking about. In the words of the great Bob Dylan...."Idiot Wind".

Why was he only a three-star prospect then? Just curious, not trying to be a jackass...

i would say based on the fact he played on a poor hs team and wasn't overly accurate in hs -im pretty sure he was rated a 5.7 tho based on measurables and projectability.

isn't there a guy on this board who called jefferson football for the radio? why don't you ask him.

Gray was rated 80 by espn in 2008: #13 QB in the country

Alipate was rated 81 by espn in 2009: #11 QB in the country

No matter what im pretty confident that we can find a serviceable Quarterback in the coming years.

When Alipate gave his verbal commit he was a 4 star on rivals but dropped to a 3 star several months later for some reason.

What a great problem to have!

What is your basis for this statement? I've never heard anything but positive comments about Gray, so where are you getting that he is lacking leadership qualities?

I grew up around a couple of guys on the team so I am around the players here and there, which has really increased my following of the team as of late. I don't get too nosey but do try to attain some knowledge on our highly recruited athletes we have brought in. Like for instance Ed Olson. He is already really strong and athletic, but sorely lacking when it comes to the finer points of his game like his footwork in the pass protection. I just brought up the subject of Gray and they all said he was a good teammate but they didn't see the leadership in him that you would want out of your QB. I'm sure that can change because he's only a freshman. That is also how i found out a while ago about him struggling with the offense. I try to do my part for the board since I have the luxury of being around some of them here and there.

You saw his little brother, Marcus. Moses was at the Penn State game. But you are correct, they are both big kids.

Has Marcus grown taller than six feet so far? I have seen that he has had a fair number of 60+ yard touchdown receptions so far this season so he could be a player to keep an eye on for the Football team for sure.

I would say he is a solid six footer. He is a thick kid though, not fat, not muscular, thick. He also had a very excellent old school batman backpack.

I am the guy that calls the Jefferson football games. I was actually in Burnsville tonight for the big Kennedy/Jefferson game that was moved to Burnsville due to poor field conditions in Bloomington. Hopefully this spurs them to finally install field turf at the stadium since about 1000 teams use that field - but I digress.

Marcus is actually right around 6' tall. He has good speed and good agility. Nothing "reggie bush" esque from him - but good ball skills. Unfortunately Jefferson is horrendous this season and he hasn't gotten to show off his skills.

The new Jaguar QB threw for more than 1000 yards and 10 TDs in basically 3 games to open the season (why wasn't this guy playing for them last year)? But he was injured in game 4 and the offense has sputtered since - including 2 home shutouts (40-0 and 34-0, and a 40-6 defecit before two meaningless TDs tonight to 2-5 Kennedy). Goes to show you how important this QB was to their team.

Moses had a subpar offensive line last year - but this year's offensive line for TJ is way worse. Moses is a great leader on any team he's been on, an outstanding student, very intelligent, and has great size and arm strength. Not to mention well-spoken in interviews. No need to worry about any off the field issues either. Too smart and too well-raised by his parents for that.

That is why he has been projected so high by the scouts. He used to be a dual threat QB but with his size at 260 lbs he can still move, but I wouldn't describe him like Gray as a dual threat.

Footwork, and more importantly, accuracy are his downfalls. Footwork can be taught, but accuracy is more difficult to teach. He missed many wide-open receivers in HS, and while some of those throws were on the run - we can all agree a college QB has to throw on the run as well. His QB to Int ratio was very poor due to the accuracy - and this was with the same receivers and better offensive line than the starting QB this year had to work with.

Moses is also not "raw." This is the biggest misconception with him. He was a starting QB for 4 years in HS - a chance so very few players get at the prep level. His dad was an NFL player - so he's had more opportunities to develop in football than 99% of the kids playing the game.

Moses did play some DE in HS - but wants to be a QB. He has all the physical tools of a pro-style QB. If his footwork and accuracy dramatically improves the sky is the limit. As many know I've been on record as saying he won't be a Gopher QB because of these deficiencies. As I will say again I sincerely hope I am wrong and he is the QB everyone wants him to be.

Gophergrad, that actually was Moses at Tubby's Tipoff with his brothers and dad. He didn't make the trip to Penn State.

For Marcus it's really hard to tell since you hardly ever get to see him with the ball. With Moses, at least it was in his hands every play.

It's also hard to tell just how fast he is. Jefferson plays on a field that is so torn to shreds it is literally unplayable, and it's not much better when it is playable. They moved the football game tonight as well as a Soccer Section semi-final game for TJ boys to the lower seeded team, forcing them to play on the road in the playoffs. This has to change.

The thing with Marcus is you have to remember he's only a Junior. I think the true test will be next year and hopefully meaning more opportunities with the ball.

Coach Jon Leverenz earlier in the year tried using Marcus in the "Wild Jaquar" formation - but with not much success he seems to have backed off of that formation. Marcus returned about 3 kicks tonight around the 40. In week 1 he threw a 85 yard TD pass with under 2 minutes to go to beat Chaska on a trick play.

Marcus actually got injured in the 3rd Quarter of the game tonight - didn't look too serious as he walked off under his own power - but he didn't return.

Basketball actually might be Marcus' best sport. He was the leading scorer as a sophomore on the team last year that got all the way to the state semifinals.

It seems like Moses is in a pretty good spot. I don't know why he'd want to change positions, or why the coaches would want to see that. He'll be the only senior in his senior season. He's got the leg up on Parish at this point. If he gets behind parish well then maybe.

This to me is very key as I really, sincerely think he will improve upon his deficiencies with D1 caliber coaching.

Very true - I think Moses is willing to wait his turn - and Moses is a true team guy. Many people say in interviews - "I only care about winning, not stats." For many people this is probably not really the truth.

But seeing Moses on the basketball team especially it leads you to believe it is actually true with him. He could have demanded the ball and scored a lot more but he developed a good passing game and when doubled in the post most of the time kicked it out to the open guy for the shot.

This teamwork first attitude exemplified the TJ underdog run through last year's playoffs - upsetting Edina, Eden Prairie (their BB team chokes on a yearly basis), and especially Henry Sibley.

They also should have beaten St. Cloud Tech in the 3rd place game - but a couple 50/50 calls went against them in the last couple minutes.

Alipate is a classic pocket passer. Very strong arm and good vision. If there were to be a position change I would say Gray would move to a skill position for his speed.
