See the prior thread on the kickoff luncheon for a good synopsis. That being said, I wanted to post my notes separately.

(1) Brewster's comments and tone made him seem like he was irritated/frustrated with the prognosticators. Who can blame him? Even so, it seemed a bit out of character for him since he typically is such a positive guy. I still can't figure out if he has toned down his positive talk because he believes the team will surpise, he believes the team will struggle, or he is simply not sure how the season will end up. That being said, he did say Weber will be the best QB in the Big Ten this year. If that ends up being the case, we should have quite a nice season.

(2) I sat with Dan B. (recruiting coordinator) and Hill (strength/conditioning coach). Dan talked about how important it is that Gopher recruits have high school coaches that like Minnesota's program or have connections to one of the coaches. He said that they really don't like to have more than about 12 recruits at each game so that they can spend an appropriate amount of time talking to each kid and each kid's family. He said it is great that the basketball program is doing well since a good number of football recruits go to bball games and said that Tubby is good for the football program.

(3) Dan also mentioned Vereen and how he and his mother came up here last year to watch Brock's brother who played for Cal. He said that Vereen's family gained a comfort level for the U of MN because of that trip which ultimately lead to Vereen's commitment at the U of M.

(4) Dan also praised coach Hill and his strength program and how Hill has really helped lineman bulk up.

Overall the event gave me a pretty good impression of the direction of the program, as such an event should. Brewster emphasized that the talent level at the U of M is continuing to improve and is light years ahead of where it was when he started. I tend to agree with Brew but the real test is whether Brew's program grows beyond a .500 win program. We may not know for another year or two and Brew may or may not have that much time left to grow his program.
