They got that chance during Tuesday night's 81-53 stomping of Long Beach State when 49ers coach Dan Monson picked up two quick technical fouls in succession and was ejected from the game 4 minutes, 24 seconds into the first half. Monson said he erupted at the referees because they missed Utah State point guard Brockeith Pane taunting the Long Beach State bench after Pane hit a three-pointer and teammate Pooh Williams dunked on consecutive possessions.
"I thought one of their kids was taunting our bench a couple times in a row," Monson said in a statement. "I got on the court which is an automatic technical but you will have to ask the officials why I got the second one because I don't know. All I did was explain what was going on, in my mind."
Utah State coach Stew Morrill said he didn't see the incident in question, yet he made it clear to Pane that such behavior was unacceptable. Not only did he yank Pane from the game, he also played the point guard just 16 minutes.
"Obviously that will not be tolerated if it did happen," Morrill told reporters after the game. "You find yourself next to me for quite a while if that happens. You've got to play the game with class. That's what we've always tried to be about. Brockeith is a good kid. He'll learn from that."
