GI has up their top 10 MN recruits for 2010. Wow there is some serious talent here and I hope Brew has much success next year in-state as he did this year. Any inside-info on what the recruits are thinking?

I'm not going to ask for copyrighted material, so don't publish the list, but there's Henderson and Gjere for sure. I don't follow Minnesota high school ball that closely so I'm baffled as to the other names. Glad to hear Minnesota HS ball is moving up though.

Allen (DT) from Minnetonka will get many offers. Already close to 300 lbs and moves pretty good. He gets double teamed alot in HS and Minnetonka plays some good teams. Doesn't have the big stats, but I would love to get him. I think his parents are Wisconsin grads, so that might play against us.

That's right. Beau Allen. Forgot about him. Read a nice piece on Scout regarding him. Henderson is going to be an Old Mr. Boston Five-Star, but Gjere and Allen should at least be 4-star guys.

The U has recruited about 10 players per year out of Minnesota, or more, every year I can recall except last year. The question is, are they Rose Bowl players?

They have gotten some MN kids but very rarely is it ever the top kids in the state. Went on rivals and used their rankings. Going back to 2003, these are the in-state rankings of the kids that signed with us (top 10):

2003 - 7th, 8th, 9th
2004 - 5th, 6th, 8th
2005 - 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th
2006 - 6th, 7th, 8th
2007 - 1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th, 9th
2008 - 3rd, 6th, 8th, 9th

We haven't been able to land a top in-state player until the last few years. The 2009 in-state class looks to be the best by far than we've had.

In 2002 there were 7 (5 ** and 2 ***). In 2003 there were 6 (2 ** and 4 ***). In 2004 there were 7 (5 ** and 2 ***). In 2005 there were 7 (2 ** and 5 ***). In 2006 there were 5 (2 ** and 3 ***). In 2007 there were 8 (3 **, 4 *** and 1 ****). In 2008 there were 4 (2 **, 1 *** and 1 ****). In 2009 there are 6 (1 ** and 5 ***). This is an average of just over 6 per year. To my knowledge none of these kids played in a Rose Bowl.

Thanks for the research. Bears out one of my biggest gripes about Mason. Utterly reviled by the HS football types in Minnesota because he basically reviled them.

2008 - 3rd, 6th, 8th, 9th

Who were these kids that were ranked this?

Ranked?

My comment was "are there 10 Rose Bowl players in Minnesota per year?" I don't care where they are "ranked".

What exactly is a "Rose Bowl player?"

There are about 7-8 players from Minnesota that are worthy of scholarship at a Big Ten school in any given year. There are an additional 5-8 worthy of lower D1/D1-AA scholarships or preferred walk-on status at a BCS school that can develop in to legitimate Big Ten players with S&C and college coaching but pose too great of a risk to use a scholarship if a better prospect can be recruited.

Grunkie, you're getting suckered into another thread hijacking attempt by Loon...err....Goldy74s. We all know where this is going: Minnesota doesn't have the talent within its borders to win. There, I saved all of us from 20 more useless posts.

Back to the original topic of who is being targeted....

Except Loon's deal is that we can't have "fast" players from outside the midwest. They present a danger to the community.

True 'dat. I usually get sucked in for a msg or two and then I just stop responding because the conversation deteriorates so quickly.

Thanks Jike.

"7-8". I don't think so. Put the top ten MN HS players names in a hat each year. Name the top 10 CFB programs in the USA. Ask each of those programs how many picks do they want out of the hat each of the next ten years. All years or no years. They must give up one ride per pick they want before they pick. USC wants zero picks. Florida wants zero picks. Ohio State may want one per year. Etc.

Just my long term guess would be that we would not find 7 or 8 Rose Bowl players per average year. Probably not find five Big Ten players per average year. But, I do agree you would need to take the top eight at Minnesota in order to get four starters per year.

Wth? First off you are not affiliated with Florida or USC so don't assume anything about them. Second off why would u go with a small rant like that when all you had to say was, "IMO the top ten CFB programs in the USA will not recruit Minnesota very heavily".

disagree. The top 3 guys in MN most years are worthy of playing at a major program like OSU or UM and are highly recruited guys. After that its a crap shoot.

2008 - 3rd, 6th, 8th, 9th

Who were these kids that were ranked this?

2007 - Anthony Jacobs, Andre Tate, Trey Davis, Ryan Orton, Chris Bunders

2008 - Sam Maresh, Shady Salamon, John Nance, Ryan Grant

I believe in 2009 (if everyone who has committed signs) we'll have 5 of the top 7 in-state recruits.

Just getting a guy like Maresh last year is something we haven't been able to do in a long time.

Jike, good point on goldy74, but you know sometimes so much stupidity just gets under our skin, and then all the crap just starts flowing again.

Someone post the list, pretty worthless post without it no?

The list is only available for premium members on GI. I'll bet it's made public in a few weeks tops.

Outside of the 3 big names I'd be willing to bet that Joel Bauman, the DE from Wayzata, Edwards from Woodbury and Starr from Blaine(I think) are on the list. Other longshot guesses would include Vraa from Rosemount and the QB at CDH.

Walleye Dude: Here goes, I was lazy n figured someone else would!

Henderson. Allen.Gjere.Okuyemi Top 4 in order.

Then 5) DiJon STarr Blaine DE
6) Lamonte Edwards Woodbury ATH
7) Joel Bauman KMS ATH
8) Mark Alt QB CDH
9) John Baker Breck RB
10A) Taylor Hanson Minnehaha DE
10B) A.J. Tarpley Wayata LB

Mark Alt from CDH will be playing hockey at MN so he won't be highly recruited as a 2010 recruit

As for 2009, here are the final rankings:
http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewrank.asp?ra_key=2243&Year=2009

We got the #2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and #8 player in the state.

#1 is McNeal and he is headed to Clemson, #7 is uncommitted and is Fritz Rock and I would say we have a shot at him

#9 is Casey Dehn, who is headed to WI and #10 is Corey Frazier, who is headed to Rice\

That is a pretty good. Getting 6 or 7 out of the top 10 in MN

I would call this recruiting effort altogether satisfactory. Amazing even.

i heard that we going after frazier now. is there truth to that and would he commit to us?
