My time should free up nicely soon, but for now it's short so I will be brief.
The 2011 Minnesota Pump N Run Best Buy Classic will be played in Bloomington next Wednesday through Friday. Games start up Wednesday morning and run past your bedtime... things wrap up Friday afternoon.
There are a lot of teams playing and while there aren't a ton of squads that are highly regardly nationally, there are enough. This tourney is using a Super Pool setup which is going to mean you're going to see some great matchups every day.
For example, in 17u play, there are roughly 57 teams competing. Day one starts off with pool play, with three teams in each pool. There are three "Super Pools" in which all nine teams (three per pool) are generally very strong - each team in the Super Pool will play the other two in their pool on Wednesday.
On Thursday, every team from the Super Pools advance to the top, or 'Platinum' bracket. The other teams that will join the Platinum bracket will be the winners from the various non-Super Pools. In other words, only the best of the non-Super Pool performers will join the Super Pool teams for play in the top bracket on Thursday and Friday.
Things are always subject to change, but HERE is a PDF of the current 17u setup.
The Super Pool teams are listed below, the small majority of whom I have seen in person this year. There are different reasons for my interest in certain of these teams and players, but I will say I can promise you'll be very impressed by some of these kids. For the most well-rounded teams with tons of high major talent at most every position, keep an eye on the Houston Defenders and Indiana Elite, aka the Tanned One's feeder organization.
Super Pool A
Minnesota Pump n Run
Double Pump Elite (Cali)
Atlanta Celtics (GA)
Super Pool B
Indiana Elite
Texas D1 Ambassadors
Southern Select (GA)
Super Pool C
Houston Defenders
New England Playaz (Mass)
Illinois Warriors
