per the Daily:

But in the Gophers loss to Purdue on Wednesday, there was a large minutes disparity between the starter Oto Osenieks, and the reserve Joey King.

King scored 14 points and hauled in nine rebounds in 47 minutes, while Osenieks went scoreless and played just eight minutes in the triple-overtime affair.

So does the possibility for the lineup change exist?

"I think that's probably the position, if we had to switch something, it would be Joey and Oto," Pitino said. on Jan. 10, the day before the Michigan State game. "I don't think there's going to be a whole lot of difference. If we lose two or three in a row, maybe we'll change it."

Go Gophers!!

I think we need Oto's adequate defense more than we need a few post moves from Joey King. As bad as the defense has been, I'd like to see the Gophers try a DeAndre Mathieu/Dre Hollins/Daquein McNeil/Austin Hollins/Elliott Eliason lineup. Obviously not a lineup that could be used all the time, but it would get our four best defenders on the floor.

Mo should start in front of EE. EE is a total liability on defense and offense aand whines like a baby. Austin Hollins needs to go to bench for Smith. Austin is a proven loser and has played a major role in four consecutive subpar Big 10 seasons. He never gets any of the blame because he is a nice guy but he is not a winning player.

What the heck has happened to Elliott Eliason? It's starting to get talked about around town.

I almost just shook my head and didn't respond to this, but this might be the dumbest thing I've ever read.

The reason Austin doesn't "get any of the blame" is that he is the top defender on the team (I'd maybe see a case for lil Dre), has the most composure of anyone on the team, and probably works harder and hustles more than anyone on the team and is the ultimate team player. You want to bench him for a guy who shot 1 of 9 against NU (for the record, I really like Malik), is a worse defender, rebounder and has worse shot selection why exactly??

While not the best source, Austin was once a projected second round pick by NBADraft.net. And yet people here don't think he can start for a 4-6 Big 10 team? Unbelievable.

The guy made the game changing steal against PSU, hit the shot to go to OT against Purdue, and has played lockdown defense all year and people want him benched because he isn't shooting 50% from 3 and jacking up shots. My goodness. Yup. That screams the ultimate loser to me too.

And that's much for of a response than that preposterous statement deserved.

First change to the starting line up.

Blog: Pitino makes his first change to the #Gophers starting lineup: Joey King is in, Oto Osenieks is out

He gets burned repeatedly on defense, has an iffy jumper, poor ball handler, and is not physical enough for Big 10. His play down the stretch over the past few years has been disappointing. He made a nice play against Illinois a few years ago and at Purdue Wednesday night. Otherwise , he has been nonexistent or made negative plays down the stretch for most of his career here. Smith is not afraid of the big moments or big games and does not have that losing mentality which may make a difference in these tight games.

BFD who the starters are. That is all you rummies think about. We can only play 5 guys at a time, and the 5 on the floor at a given time are decided by only one person...Coach Pitino.

Brilliant insight again Donald.

I'm with scher215. All I can say is .... wow!?!? Really?? What I see when I watch the games is pretty much what scher215 wrote. Sure, it would be nice to see Austin demand the ball and flash more offense in crunch time. But - burned on defense, etc...don't see it.

I think we all know who the loser is in this thread, and it's most certainly not Austin Hollins.

I don't know why I continue to respond to these idiotic posts but here it goes again:

- In the past four games, Hollins has shot 52% from the field.
- In the past five games, he has made every free throw he has attempted.
- In the past five games, he has played 186 minutes (37.2 per game) while committing just seven total turnovers and just seven fouls.
- In the past five games, he has averaged 3.8 steals and 3.0 assists per game.
- Just LAST GAME, "loser" Hollins hit a clutch jumper at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. In that same game, "winner" Smith missed a game winning shot in OT (or 2nd OT).
- Hollins has more steals in the past three games than Smith has the entire Big Ten season.
- Hollins has more assists in the past four games than Smith has the entire Big Ten season.

Smith is a great addition and solid contributor, but he is in the game to do one thing and that is score, mainly from the outside. And when he is having an off night shooting, he's not a big factor. When Hollins isn't shooting well, he still does a lot of other things extremely well.

Mrs Smith, your boy Malik will get plenty of playing time, don't you go worrying yourself about that. There's no need to go trash talking Austin, cuz he's a good player too! You just settle down now and let coach Pitino take care of all this fuss. Everything gonna be alright...alright.

Wow, that's an impressive run by Austin.

Good post; thanks.

You should stop posting on message boards.

Well stated GoodasGold. You replied a hell of a lot better than I would have, so thank you for that. When the only thing a fan sees and understands is the scorebook, needless to say that commentor is not very astute to what it entails to be a "complete" player.

Did you guys see the end of the Michigan State game or the brick three point shot at end of 3ot against Purdue? Look at the statistics over four years not just selective periods of time.

No, please enlighten us, ok?

Tubby notches another conference win today

Tubby has a 2-3 conference record with two consecutive wins. As I previously stated, Tubby will challenge 20 wins this season taking over a program in chaos.

After three close conference losses, Tubby finally gets a win upsetting the number 12 team in the country.

Texas Tech is 11-11 with only 9 regular season games left. And that #12 Baylor team is now 2-7 in the Big 12.

Malik’s defense is far worse than Austin’s. That is why Hollins starts and plays more, IMO.

Any chance he was Parski in a former life?

Good win for Tubby. TT is experiencing what we did in 2008. A move from an utter train wreck to competence.
