per the Daily:

If the Gophers don’t make it to the Capital One Bowl, there are still several other January games out there.

The Outback Bowl in Tampa, Fla., goes to the Big Ten’s third-place team, and the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla., is designated for the fourth- or fifth-place team in the Big Ten.

The Gophers could also go to the Heart of Dallas Bowl in Dallas, which is meant for the Big Ten’s seventh bowl-eligible program.

There’s also the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl in Tempe, Ariz., on Dec. 28, and the Texas Bowl, which Minnesota played in last season.

While bowl game speculation is a hot topic, players said the game against Michigan State this weekend is the main focus.

“We want to go into Michigan State and win,” junior running back David Cobb said. “If that means a better bowl game, that’s good.”

Go Gophers!!

This writer isn't very familiar with Bowl Selection. None of those bowls go to the 3rd/4th/5th place team, it goes to the 3rd/4th/5th chosen team. Additionally he says 'unless all 3 get selected to BCS games' which is impossible. Only 2 per conference.

not much more to be said than that

Yep. His credibility immediately went out the window with that statement. Stopped reading right there. Pretty standard stuff that no conference can get more than 2 in the BCS.

Gophers will get screwed - sorry

I wouldn't count on us vaulting anyone. We never have before and if anything, I fully expect the selection committee to select other teams ahead of us. It would help to get two teams in the BCS Bowls and it also helps that Penn St. is ineligible.

If both Michigan St. and Ohio St. make it in, look for the selection committee to take Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan ahead of us -- that's almost a lock. Minnesota will end up as the Big Ten #5 or #6 pick, depending on how many Big Ten teams make it into BCS - SIMPLE AS THAT.

If we beat Michigan State and both Iowa and Michigan lose, we will be two games up on both - its almost a lock that we will be taken ahead of both of them...

I certainly hope this would be true. If there are two BCS teams, this should put us at the Otback bowl, right?

If we win, it would be pretty unfair to have us any lower than the BWW bowl IMO.

Unfair? Nothing to do with it.

Currently two teams play for the BCS National Championship. What is the need for all these other BCS games?

If you are tOSU/Big Ten Champ and don't make the National Champ game, do you want to go to another BCS game or would you rather go to the Rose Bowl?

I've never understood the other 6(?) BCS games.
