MN Daily: Gophers fans fill Williams Arena amid national attendance drop

Really bizarre story for March 27, 2012. Inaccurate and misses the real story (significant decrease in attendance this year and it's actually the second year in a row attendance has dropped).

On top of that, some Gophers fans will have to pay a $100, $250 or $500 donation, depending on the seat location. The set [sic] donation costs mimic TCF Bank Stadium’s premium pricing.

Also... I think the highest donation level is $400

Some interesting numbers. I'd like to see the per-game average attendance by season back to 1928.

The real point of this article is that attendance is falling everywhere.

+1 The article is about national trends and how, over the past 5 years, Gophers attendance holding its own. I think the key number to look at, which is only briefly mentioned in the story, is how the gophers rank every year nationally. If we are always around 25 or 26, then regardless of our own drop, its likely a national trend. If we fall from 25 to 40, then yeah, there is a problem at the U.

The problem is that it addresses Tubby's first four years and ignores the more than 10% drop in attendance this year.

Last year is last year. The Barn will be rockin' next season, get your tickets while you still can.

Go Gophers!

How many times are you going to ignore the trend nationally, which the article points out. As I said in my post, which you did not quote completely, its about national attendance rankings. The Gophers ranking seems to have held steady the past couple of years.. A 10% drop does not seem out of the norm nationally, isn't that the point of the article?

Agreed! The drop in attendance coincides with a drop in performance and expectations. Who wants to pay increasing ticket prices to see the hometown team lay an egg?

Expectations and performance are trending up. Next year's attendance, consequently, will rise.

Gonna be fun! Go Gophers!
