Jim Harbaugh is as unique as they come.

The Michigan football coach has built a career, and brand, off his football prowess and quirky humor.

And turns out, P.J. Fleck has been paying attention.

"He's one of the coaches I've respected and looked up to for a very long time," Fleck said Tuesday on the Big Ten coaches' teleconference. "Especially as a very young coach.

"In our profession, we're always taught to be ourselves. Well, I don't know a lot of coaches that are truly themselves. Jim Harbaugh is himself."

Michigan hosts Minnesota on Saturday in Ann Arbor (7:30 p.m., FOX), the first-ever meeting between Harbaugh and a Fleck-led football team.

The two have only met a handful of times, most recently over the summer at Big Ten media days. But Fleck, 36, says he's gleaned a lot from Harbaugh.

"He's a trailblazer and pioneer of making sure that you can be yourself, in all areas," Fleck said. "Recruiting-wise. How you run a program. The media. You can be the real person that you are, and he's had a ton of success everywhere he's been."
