Unfortunately given the second half of today's game and his play throughout the season most casual Gophers fans will remember Mitch in a negative light, but I think that's a little unfair.

Did he ever reach his full potential? No. Was he maddeningly inconsistent? Sure.

But he led the Gophers to three 8-win seasons and leaves the program in much better shape than when he stepped into the job.

He deserves some appreciation and recognition from Gophers fans as he moves on and I for one appreciate all he has done for this program.

Shut up...just up.

I appreciate that he kept us as an average football team.

He's had good enough receivers to put up better numbers.

His RBs and defense have been good for all 3 years.

The whole team and fan base deserve a whole lot better than this gong show.

He was not a scholarship thief - but I simply don't buy he was the best option. That is not on Mitch - that is on the coaching staff. ML is simply either uncoachable or not talented. Either way, the coaches should not have needed 5 years to figure that out.

For being the most Minnesota possible QB of all time.

I do appreciate his commitment and his toughness. But he did reach his full potential. So I'm done with Leidner Island crap.

The kid played his guts out when he had an offensive coordinator that wanted to win (first half)
but struggled, as per usual, with an offensive coordinator that didn't want to win (second half)

He's not the most talented kid in the the world, we know this, but he's probably the best gamer
we've had in years and was the result of a coaching staff and administration that hardly wants
to see kids succeed..it seems. This kid deserved the best from the U, and never really got it.

I think we can all agree that we appreciate that he is graduating and moving on.

We got 8 win seasons in spite of Leidner. It was our defense and running game. There are a hundred quarterbacks who could have done the same.

Today was horrible, but here is where I am. I truly felt bad for ML7 today. I hope he can rise above this and become a productive human being, but the bottom line is that he was not even an average big ten qb. I wanted like everything to have him rise the occasion this year and lead us to a big ten championship, but that didn't happen- and a lot of it lies on his shoulders. I wanted like everything for a kid who chose to stay home, to be the home town hero, to be that home town here- didn't happen. But I will say this- I love the fact the ML7 chose to stay home and play for his home town team. I proud of the way he battled, I'm proud that he loved being maroon and gold. Wish it could have been better, as he seems to be a good kid. But he was one of us, and I am proud of him for that. Better days are ahead ML7- maybe not in football, but keep your head up. Thanks for being golden.

This I have to disagree with. Talent wise, he should have been a career backup. His grit and leadership put him ahead of the QB pack on this team. I'd say he maximized all he had to offer.

Is this thread serious? He lost us so many games. How many did he win us? I seriously can't think of one.

I was just saying somewhere else, people say they want local kids who work hard and have positive attitudes and succeed in school and don't complain and don't get into trouble, but when you look at how fans treat Mitch, you can see that it's a bunch of bull. Similar to Joey King on the basketball side. Outside of on field performance, since we like to act like we want good citizens and students and not just good athletes, Mitch should be the easiest guy in the world to cheer for, yet he gets vitriol every game.

Thank you for your contributions to the Gophers Mitch. That 5 touchdown dismantling of Iowa will be one of my best memories of him. He did just about everything that was expected of him, seemed like he was loved by his teammates. He wasn't always great on the field, but sometimes he was, and like I said above, I think he's just a good dude and easy to cheer for.

Ski-U-Mah Mitch!

I thought he was a 2 star with no real interest outside Minnesota. He had other opportunities?

I appreciate he stuck with the program, didn't transfer to Rutgers, didn't kick someone in the head while on the ground. He competed and he grows a good beard.

I'd say he played a great game against Central Mich. But that's not saying much I guess.

Mitchell was a part of a HARD WORKING team. He led us well. Thanks for staying Mitch!

Like was said earlier, there are 100 qb's that could have won 8 games with this team and that schedule. He didn't win a single game for us.

I also am looking forward to a new quarterback next year. And I appreciate all Mitch has done for this program.

Both statements can be true.

Good Mitch, bad Mitch. Unfortunately to many times, bad Mitch. Today was the crowning glory.

Damnit! I want you to be my father figure with how you elegantly and politically can justify all of my **** ups.

You are right. There are 100's of QB's out there who could have done better. Unfortunately the coaches decided to have ML. If anything is to blame, it is upon the coaches recruitting/coaching/play calling, etc.
