Hi all, first time poster, but I've been reading the board for awhile now. I know there has been a lot of talk about Mitch's performance last week and I don't necessarily want to debate whether he's good enough to take us to the next level, he's our starter for this year for better or worse. I haven't seen this discussed other places so I thought I would bring it up. Mitch seems to play his best games after poor performances. Anyway below are the stat lines from his two best games this year IMO:

@Mich 14-22 167 1 TD 0 INT
Vs IA 10-13 138 4 TD 0 INT

The common denominator in those two games is they have probably followed two of his 3 worst performances this year IMO:

@TCU 12-26 151 0 TD 3 INT
@IL 12-30 240 1 TD 1 INT

Anyway once again we have Mitch coming off of a bad performance. Honestly I think if someone were to ask Mitch he would tell you he needed to be better against OSU. Based on the above information I believe Mitch is once again going to provide us with a bounce back performance. Say what you want about the kid, but to me he seems to have the right mentality to lead this team and if you're going to be an inconsistent/streaky QB you cannot string together 2 bad performance. Anyway, what do you guys think? I'm guessing that Mitch will give us a good performance this week and the Gophers walk away with good road win.

QB is such a cerebral position it all depends on how he manages his emotions. When he doesn't push he does well. He seems to play much better when the game is close and the protection is working. No QB plays well when they are rushed/hear footsteps all game. Exhibit A this year is Hack at PSU.

IMO he has a lot of potential and has shown signs of improvement even if it's not really showing up in the stats. Better WRS would help and that will be improving next season as Jones improves, Maye improves and the young guys get going and bring more physicality.

Nice prediction. Um, it was a prediction, right?

maye is a senior

Semi prediction, I think in the last sentence I said Mitch will play well enough to win. Which he did so I'll take it.......

Great post. Keep em coming…welcome

I made a comment to my fiance this last week that Mitch seems to do the opposite of what we expect. He seems to have great mental toughness and ability to respond to adversity, so he plays really well after bad outings when everyone is calling for his head. However, mentally he doesn't seemed to have figured out how to respond to success and positive expectations. He looked pretty bad even against bad competition at the start of the year when the coaching staff seemed ready to dub him the next Joe Namath, and his bad outings since tend to come after pretty good performances. Apparently we need to convince him that he played a terrible game today to get him ready for the Wisconsin game.

IMO, Mitch has been more inconsistent than bad this year. He has lots of shortcomings, but I watched in amazement today when he became a true leader. Exactly what Kill said he was. Cobb goes down and he stepped up his game. He was leading and our team was following. I have no doubt rocky roads are ahead with ML7, but I will try and remember this game when they do.

Yeah, it's the inconsistency that's frustrating. I think he's tough and he's got enough talent to succeed at this level. His fundamentals and reads seem to vary (sometimes wildly) from play-to-play and I think that's what drives people a little nuts.

I don't recall this...because it's a lie.

Please come out with another post next week with reasons Mitch will have a good game. This seemed to work. As Pompous Elitist said when protection is good he can be good. Notice how he had all the time in the world and a clean pocket on the long throw to Maye? Also notice how freaking perfect that pass was!?!?!? Give him time. Hopefully his consistency improves. He has had some GREAT games for us this year and some good games and has had 2-3 duds. If we can just turn those duds into OK games I think we can expect a lot of wins.

I'm really enjoying this season.
