Minnesota set themselves back with the hiring of Brewster to a point where Indiana is on the same level and now making a very important hire at the same time. Indiana is in a better location than Minnesota for recruiting if they get the right coach. I would argue that they have a better shot on the likes or Harbaugh and Hoke than we would. They also are at a point where the right hire can put them ahead of Purdue in their home state.

Hoke played and coached in Indiana and Harbaugh played in Indy. His brother-in-law also coaches the Hoosiers basketball team. This could be an interesting week of speculation.

Look at TCF...then look at Memorial Stadium...

...I'm just sayin'...

Indiana is in a better location than Minnesota when it comes to recruiting?

3 hours from Chicago versus 6? Closer to Ohio? What do you mean?

Minnesota has better facilities, is in a better city, and doesn't have the recent history of Indiana as a perennial loser. As bad as we've been, Indiana has been even worse for the past 15 years.

Indiana Big Ten Records:
2010: 1-7 (last)
2009: 1-7
2008: 1-7
2007: 3-5
2006: 3-5
2005: 1-7
2004: 1-7
2003: 1-7

Since 2003, IU has won 12 conference games, during that same stretch, Minnesota has won 23 Big Ten games.

During that time, they've also had more instability, more head coaches than Minnesota.

Also, I haven't hear what Indiana is looking to pay their next head coach. Given the state of their facilities, attendance, and history--- I highly doubt they could match the $2.5-$3.0 million Minnesota is reportedly prepared to offer the next guy.

Minnesota should be the better job without question, but Indiana has some potential. It certainly should be a better job than it currently is.

Minnesota is unquestionably the better job - better town, better facilities, some legitimate history (albeit in the leather helmet days :)), and no other D-1 program in the state. I don't think it is even worth arguing about (but since we're sports fans, we will.)

FWIW, Buckyville thinks Minnie is the better job, except one guy who appears to arguing that he wants a job with low expectations so he can't fail. How'd that work out for Lynch?

I agree the low expectations may be an attractive feature, especially for a coordinator coming into his first tenure as a head coach.

Indiana has made some interesting choices over the years. They've covered the entire waterfront. Pro guy (Cameron). MAC guy (Hoeppner). Inside hire (Lynch). Ivy League (Pont). Solid "refugee/retread" (Mallory). I always saw Mallory as their version of Mason.

As far as Badger fans on our board go, you're okay, TAW. I'd have a beer with you.

Minnesota is a better job, Indiana competes with Purdue for every in state recruit, not to mention facilities, location, etc..

Minnesota is a better job and it's not really that close. The fact that they will fill a 17K basketball arena even when they're awful, but can't fill one of the smallest football stadiums in a BCS conference speaks volumes. They just don't care about football, and I don't see how you can make them. They sold a 'home' game with PSU to FedEx Field. What kind of message does that send? That has to enter into the equation. Then factor in TCF, etc. and it's a pretty clear advantage to MN.

Indiana football is easily #3 in college football team in Indiana behind Notre Dame and Purdue and is easily #2 on their own campus. Its a tough job in that respect. But the expectations are really really low. Minnesota has the better stadium hands down but IU football practice area isn't bad-it's in the new endzone project the just finished. The TC are a much better place than Bloomington.

Overall Minnesota is the much better job hands down. But I might be a little biased.
