Probably not going to be a lot of picks for Minnesota this week but whatever.

Picks and Parlays has Penn State winning 24-13
Penn State has won 10 of the 16 all-time meetings against Minnesota, including a 45-17 home victory two years ago. The Golden Gophers will look to shorten this contest with their running game and a solid defense. Look for the Nittany Lions to win an ugly game on the road that stays under the total.

Sports Chat Place is going with Penn State
I’ll just stay with Penn State. The Lions dominated Purdue in their last outing, notching 539 yards (305 passing), 23 first downs and a nice 9-of-14 on third downs. The defense gave up 302 yards (217 passing), 16 first downs and 5-of-14 on third downs on the other side. Penn State has outscored opponents by a combined 84-16 in their last two games.

As for Minnesota, they snapped a nice win streak against Rutgers in their last outing but didn’t play horribly for most of the game. The Gophers posted 297 yards (35 rushing) and went 7-of-16 on third-down tries but let the game go in the fourth. This will be an even tougher matchup, and I don’t see the Gophers staying too close.

Bang the Book predicts a 27-21 win for Penn State
Penn State’s defense has been impressive this season, ranking sixth nationally by allowing just 13.6 points per game. They’ve been particularly strong against the run, giving up only 101.5 rushing yards per game, which ranks 13th in the country. Opposing quarterbacks have managed a passer rating of just 74.1 and a completion percentage of 56.4% against Penn State’s secondary.

Not sure picking a top 5 team to beat an unranked team qualifies someone for Dink status.
Hey we are trying to manufacture some Gopherhole bulletin material. Won't determine the outcome of the game, but we'll bring our game face to Huntington, a watering hole or, our sofa.

Nope! You won't get that time back. ;)

College Football News predicts a 27-16 Penn State win
This isn’t the Minnesota running game of the last several years under PJ Fleck, but when it gets past 80 yards the team is 5-0 - and 1-4 when it doesn’t. But in those five wins the Gophers cranked up 116 yards, and Penn State has allowed that many or more just three times.

The Nittany Lions will be in a war. The Gopher defense will rise up and be great against the run, Nittany Lion QB Drew Allar won’t take too many shots down the field, and it’ll be tough getting points.

Penn State will pull it out late on a defensive stop, but it’ll do a whole lot of sweating.

Black Shoe Diaries (SB Nation) is predicting a 28-13 win for Penn State
This game certainly will be a test for the Nittany Lions. Minnesota is a well-coached team with a stingy defense and efficient quarterback. They will fight like hell to upset the #4 team in the nation and reward their fans with their biggest win of the season. However, Penn State has proven too motivated to let this game slip away, and will outlast the Gophers to move to 10-1.

It could be a dicey first half for the Nittany Lions, and may even find themselves down at halftime. However, the offense will be able to generate enough big plays to pull ahead, while the defensive front wears down the Gophers in the trenches to grind their offense to a halt in the second half.

Penn State begins to pull away in the third quarter as Penn State fans breathe a sigh of relief before rejoicing in another road victory against a tough opponent.

The York Daily Record has Penn State winning 27-13
The key on Saturday, then, will not be just halting the running of Minnesota's Darius Taylor (5 yards per carry) but pressuring, disrupting and making life more difficult than usual for quarterback Max Brosmer. Force him to rush things. Pressure him into mistakes. Create a couple of turnovers. Doing that could trigger another landslide Penn State victory.

College Football Network is going with Penn State, 27-17
Historically, Penn State has held the upper hand, winning 10 of 16 meetings, including a commanding 45-17 triumph two years ago. On Saturday, Minnesota will aim to slow the tempo with their defense and ground attack. They’re skilled enough on the defensive side to give Penn State some fits. Minnesota will make things challenging on the Nittany Lions and keep it within the number.

Not much good in these ones as expected, so brace yourself.

The Star Tribune has Penn State winning 27-23
Penn State rebounded from its 20-13 loss at Ohio State by thrashing Washington and Purdue by a combined 84-16. That comes with a grain of salt because Washington is 0-4 on the road and Purdue is, well, Purdue. A rested Gophers team will provide a tougher challenge for the Nittany Lions, who are trying to prove that they’re a national title contender.

Penn State has advantages in talent and depth on both sides of the ball, and that will move them one step closer to a playoff berth. The Gophers will keep it close and play much better than they did at Rutgers, but Penn State has more ways to win.

The Pioneer Press is picking Penn State, 28-20
Minnesota Offense Vs. Penn State Defense: Minnesota’s 2019 upset was fueled by explosive touchdowns catches from Tanner Morgan to Rashod Bateman, Tyler Johnson and Chris Autman-Bell. But this year’s team is dead last (134th in the nation) in scrimmage plays over 30 yards — only seven in 10 games. It’s hard to see where many big plays come from on Saturday. Edge: Penn State

Minnesota Defense Vs. Penn State Offense:
Penn State boasts one of the best running back duos in the nation: Krytron Allen and Nick Singleton, who has been dealing with injury; they have combined for 1,237 yards rushing after teaming up for 1,654 a year ago. Minnesota’s missed tackles hex can’t resurface. Edge: Penn State

Prediction:
The Gophers will honor approximately 20 seniors on Saturday in a big-game atmosphere for the home finale, but it’s hard to see where the big offensive plays will come from in order to overcome being a double-digit underdog.

Gopher Illustrated (247 Sports) is picking Penn State, 24-13
Until I see Minnesota's offensive and defensive lines perform at their best for 60 minutes, I just have a hard time believing that Fleck's team can pull off the upset. It's close into the fourth quarter, but a late Warren touchdown puts them up two scores.

Lions 247 (247 Sports) staffers are picking Penn State
Mark Brennan has Penn State winning 31-10
It is fair to call an offense that rushed for 35 yards in a road loss to Rutgers one-dimensional. And I just don't see a one-dimensional team — even one that is tied for seventh in the nation in turnover margin at +1.20 — being able to deal with this Penn State defense. The Lions won their last two games by a combined margin of 84-16 despite creating a total of one turnover and seven points off turnovers. Tight for a quarter. Maybe a half. Then PSU rows away to a relatively easy win.

Tyler Donahue is picking Penn State, 31-17
PSU has serious respect for Minnesota QB Max Brosmer, and it wouldn't surprise if he was as effective a passer as anyone the Nittany Lions have faced this season. But I don't like this matchup for his offensive line. Minnesota's rushing attack hasn't been reliable this fall and that won't suddenly change against this Nittany Lions defense, eventually allowing PSU's pass rush to swing momentum as Minnesota attempts to mount a comeback.

Daniel Gallen sides with Penn State, 31-13
Penn State is the better team. The Nittany Lions are relatively healthy. And they've already won on the road in places like Milan Puskar Stadium, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Camp Randall Stadium this season. They're equipped for whatever Minnesota tries to throw at them.

Tyler Calvaruso takes Penn State, 28-14
I like Penn State to get this one done in the end, as the offense continues to roll and takes care of the football. It would not surprise me in the slightest if Minnesota puts up a true fight, but Penn State's talent and its strengths should get this one across the line with a win.

Brian Dohn is going with Penn State, 31-16
Penn State's front seven is excellent, and Minnesota struggles on the offensive line. The Nittany Lions' offense should be able to wear down Minnesota's defensive front. The Golden Gophers are coming off a bye, which is the only concern, but it should not be enough to worry the Nittany Lions.

StateCollege.com predicts a 24-13 Penn State win
Franklin made the case on Monday that defensive coordinator Tom Allen isn’t getting enough credit for the job he’s done in 2024. On Saturday, more than ever, it’s time for Allen to continue to prove that Franklin’s right. This is not a good Golden Gophers’ offense, and keeping them to just two scores would almost certainly provide the Nittany Lions with a necessary cushion to get past a strong defensive unit.

Probably not going to be a lot of picks for Minnesota this week but whatever.

Certainly a Gophers W will go down in the books as a unanimous upset from bookies to press to general prognosticators...
