I remember seeing a post on here where someone said you can't win with all Minnesota players so you have to recruit other areas etc. I would beg to differ on that statement. Below is a potential team of all Minnesota players who would all still have eligibility for this season.

PG Jordan Taylor
SG Blake Hoffarber
SF Royce White
PF Mbakwe
C Jon Leuer

BN Cole Aldrich
BN Rodney Williams
BN Noah Dahlman
BN Al Nolan
BN Trent Lockett

This team would not only have a very nice starting lineup, but would have some nice depth as well. Tubby just missed out on recruiting the likes of Aldrich, Leuer, and Taylor. I feel confident that at least one of those players would have chosen to play here. Yes I know things happen, but its kind of fun to see what a team would look like with all in state players. There are some other nice players from Minnesota that could have been solid bench guys. You can't fault Tubby for this. Since he's been here he's recruited all the top Minnesota guys. If he can continue to do that, we should be a pretty consistent program. Now if he can add a high profile national recruit, that could put us over the top.

Well, you kinda made my point for me.

But just empirically, when has it ever happened? Big Ten titles--4 before 1920, including national championships in 1902-1903-1919. Several star players were not from Minnesota, such as Arnold Oss, Erling Platou, William Deering. But of course that was a different world, hardly a model for today.

1937--ok, you got me there, all Minnesota including Marty Rolek and John Kundla.

1972--only Dave Winfield.

1982--Randy Breuer but who else?

1997--Sammie and John Thomas.

That team would be a national title contender, arguably the overwhelming favorite this year. That said, Aldrich would absolutely start on that team. I would not support trying to create an "all-Minnesota" team though.

Jon Leuer at C???????????????
Just remember Royce White has spent more time in a legal court than on a basketball court.

Yes we missed on some very good Mn players but there are a lot of years that Mn does not produce a lot of upper level D1 talent.

Definitely enough talent in MN to form a solid base for a winning program, especially since there are no other major programs in the area. I think that Tubby and his staff are doing all the right things, we just need a little better fortune than we have had in the past year.

Do the same type of list for some other states. Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, California, Texas, Florida, New York, etc. I would venture to guess the MN group doesn't look so imposing. Unfortunately Sunnyday is right. Here's a list of MN kids that gave D1 verbals. Would you trade next years Hollins for one of them? Plus there's a bunch of factors involved, as we all know, grades, team needs, how many available, baggage and so on. Lucas Brown Roseville Area Senior F Wofford Yes
Joe Coleman Hopkins Senior F Minnesota Yes
Seth Hinrichs MACCRAY Senior C Lafayette Yes
Shelby Moats Waconia Senior F Vanderbilt Yes
Jayme Moten New London-Spicer Senior -- Texas-Pan American Yes
Travis Rollo Mayer Lutheran Senior F Army Yes
Tom Schalk Apple Valley Senior F William & Mary Yes

You can't win by only recruiting in-state players because some of them go elsewhere, or are head cases like White. Just recruit the best players available from all over the country and make sure you get the best from your in-state tallent pool. I believe that since we landed Tubby he HAS recruited and signed the best instate players.

I think he has too. There's always going to be some that we might look back on and say, "wow I wished he would have stayed!" That's just the way it goes. I do enjoy looking at lists with Minnesota players though. Pretty interesting.

I think MN staff (since Tubby) have not always gotten some MN players that would make an impact. It seems like the staff doesn't feel like they can go after too many MN players... for example I didn't understand Maverick for instance... there are MN players that are at least as good if not better than Mav, so why not take a MN player instead?
But there are always issues people don't know about that can be why they pass. I just think MN players are naturally going to be more invested and have more passion playing for the home state instead of someone coming from across the country
