Minnesota quarterback Zach Pyron has entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer, @On3sports has learned.

Well said. Maybe I’m getting it mixed up but weren’t both Knuth and Clark here at the same time as AK8?
I think they were, but I don’t think they left because AK was declared the promised son or anything. They saw AK get the first crack when Morgan went out and they predicted like all of us did that he would be the starter the following year.

I’ve seen a few people say even Shikenjanski passed him. At the very I was hoping for some wildcat packages with Pyron. I hope the other guys passing him means they’ve just been very good and not necessarily that Pyron was bad.

Pyron's GT stats aren't good. Not surprised he didn't light it up here.

I don't consider "anointing" to mean that you don't play backups. I think of "anoint" as someone being handed a position without earning it - like PJ has in his head who is going to be the starter and nothing can change his mind.

With ZA and Morgan, PJ clearly changed his mind. ZA won the job in 2018 and did not win it back from Morgan in 2019. It wasn't like Morgan lit the world on fire to finish 2018. Their stats were really similar. It was ZA's team and it became Morgan's team.I think it's pretty clear that PJ changed his mind on these two.

As for Kramer, I can't think of a single time where he should have been the starter. I would have been 100% cool with him getting run the year AK struggled.

I think there is a good argument AK was anointed but the issue (IMO) was more that we didn't bring in realistic competition for him.

As far as Brosmer, do we still consider someone to be anointed if they were really good? Isn't it more likely PJ was just right about him?
I think we are mostly in agreement ... just maybe talking about interpretations of words.
But and i could be mis remembering...I thought ZA and Morgan were competing preseason and maybe ZA was leading and then he broke his foot/ankle? So, Morgan won by default and then once somebody starts playing...is my real point....they never come out unless they physically can't play. (ZA injuries and Morgan concussions.)

Agree competition was weak for AK.
My thought on Brosmer was only this...if Lindsay proves he's a far superior QB this year to Brosmer...PJ wasn't allowing any competition between them. He picks a guy and rides him.

Maybe Koi Perich passed him on the wildcat packages.

I think Wittke might be a better athlete than Pyron if they want to feature a wildcat package.

If it's not articulated on Gopherhole, it never happened :).
I was born once, had an adventurous and fulfilling life, found a great wife, had kids and a grandchild, plus dogs, cats and an even a bird. Now I’m a bit older, happy and feeling good that it all happened because I posted it on GopherHole!

For the record I was an AK skeptic from the start.... So not everyone thought he'd be excellent. I agree he was obviously going to be the starter but that was because we had nothing behind him.
Fair enough. 99% did. 😂

Zach Pyron played the current system perfectly. He took a shot at winning the starting job at a high visibility P2 school and when he saw it wasn’t going to happen went G5. He obviously wants to start. That’s the problem with the current two portal window system.

Gophers did their best. Got legit competition for the QB position with no proven starter. You can’t force the guy to stay here as a backup when he loses the starting job.
