Tubby's quotes

They need a guy like Oto, who's a 6'8" shooter; they just don't have that kind of player. Noted they have recruited players like that, "but they're not here."

direct shot at Joseph? or is he talking about players they missed out on or players coming?

Said the practice facility is a necessity with the arms race of college basketball, and that "we just need it."

I think everyone would agree but as far as I know this is a long ways off. IMO an excuse that is becoming way too convenient.

What's wrong with practicing at Williams? Why not practice on the same raised court you play 60-65% of your games on? Why get used to different rims, lighting, and depth perception?

Youre probably spot on. He is probably talking about Joseph and Royce. Both could shoot well at their position but both arent here.

Because you can't run as efficient a practice with only 1 court. Period. And oddly enough no other team in the country has problems with different rims, lighting, and depth perception with their practice facilities. Could it be because those aren't things to be worried about?

Because it's not available 24/7. There is also a women's team.

There's also another court in the same building...

What exactly would this practice facility consist of? I'm assuming basketball courts, a weight/training room, a film/meeting room, offices, and?????

Why does Tubby perceive this to be such a necessity, and is he right about that? Where do all of these things take place now, in Williams Arena? I'm assuming that most other universities have practice facilities like the one he wants, so that's something that theoretically could only help so far as recruiting goes, no?

These are honest questions by the way, as I am clueless on this topic.

It's just like when you were a kid and little Timmy down the block got a new bike and you get jealous and want a new bike for yourself even though the bike you currently have is just fine and you can't afford the new bike anyways.

A practice facility would be available to the team 24/7. I recall reading or hearing somewhere that Blake said that he would go to the Barn to shoot around and the dance team would be in there or something, so he would have to go to the YMCA or to Hopkins HS to shoot.

Wow, we outshoot 'em and loose big.

When OSU missed a shot, we got 23 of those rebounds, they got 20.

And we had 20-22 turnovers to 8.

So they got 22 more shots off than we did. A classic way to lose.

Notice they call it recruiting not selection. The facilities are very important to kids when they select which college they will attend...there are way more D-1 schools than 4 and 5 star kids each year...so everything matters.

Further, the practice facility is more than just more courts (which we need) it is also a place for all the player support to exist...including academic support, film, player lounge and locker and training rooms.

Having a practice facility changes the atmosphere around a team...maybe we don't lose Cobbs and Joseph if we have one because the team, coaches and support staff have more interaction and can better manage and support the players...

Without the profit generating sports of football, BB and Hockey...the U has no athletics...so we need to invest in these three to make sure we have the resources to pay for everything else.

Further, Tubby will be leaving in a few years and if we don't have a practice facility by then...forget about any top tier coach wanting to come here...they all know how important it is when competing for the top talent...that's why so many top schools are spending millions on these facilities.

He must have the same mindset as Joel Maturi. Do you think there is any correlation between Tubby's contract extension and a practice facility? If the U is serious about revenue producing athletics, this facility has to be number one priority. Keeping kids in school and letting the coach handle personnel decisions number 2.

I'd read that too ... how do we expect players to improve (as noted in other threads) without a place to do it?

Sure the hours of practice help, but if a guy wants to put in EXTRA hours, he really can't. I don't belive Williams is open 24/7 for the players (I could be wrong on that though), but it is absolutley ridiculous for a scholarship athlete in a huge revenue generating sport on a team in the top 25 to have to go to his HS or the Y if he wants to improve.

Could not agree more. It is beyond ridiculous.
