Minnesota now appearing in the "other's receiving votes" portion of AP Top 25

Saw that TCU is now #9 so we did play a very good team. If the Gophers beat northwestern they will be a lot closer or possibly crack the top 25.

Michigan State is creeping back into the playoff race. Still a long ways to go, but if the AP poll is any indication. I bet a 1 loss MSU gets in.

If not then, then certainly would be in the top 25 if we win the next 3.

Next week is the tough one, the next two are wins pending major meltdowns.

Well, hopefully that is not going to be the team's attitude going into any of the games the rest of the season. Just my opinion. Not trying to hate on your post per se. Sure that Oregon, and virtually everyone else out there, didn't see what Arizona had in store for them, etc. considering what happened to a bunch of teams over the last week. Imo, all games are to be taken seriously and anyone is beatable at just about anytime if a team goes into a game lackadaisical.

I've never said a word to anyone associated with the team, so I don't know how they're feeling.

But I can tell you that my view that two of the next 3 are gimmees does not affect them one bit.

As we all found out yesterday, in CFB there are no gimmees. None of our remaining games is a gimmee.

North Dakota State has 3 hard-earned votes after emerging unscathed from a real meat grinder of a schedule including @Iowa State (whose only win so far is a road game at Iowa), @Weber State, Incarnate Word, Montana, and @Western Illinois.

Baylor actually has Incarnate Word scheduled in a couple of years.

They could be ranked 6th by next week. Unless the Auburn-Miss St. game is very close, I see them possibly passing the loser of that game. And Ole Miss goes to A&M.

The problem with the polls is inertia. No one ever looks back at the reason why a team jumped into the polls in the first place. A great example is East Carolina (don't get me wrong, I like their story). But, they lost to SC - which at the time was not considered too bad because people thought SC was a legit top team so no shame in a loss. Then, they beat VTech, which jumped them up huge because VTech beat OSU which had them jump into the top 25. With hindsight, that loss vs. SC was against an unranked opponent and the win vs. VTech was against an unranked opponent. So, basically 4-1 with no signature win a bad loss to an unranked opponent yet they are top 25. Minnesota has not beat a ranked opponent, but our loss was against a current top 10 team. Our resume is technically better based on what has actually happened over the last 6 weeks. However, changing the rankings for what actually happens on the field vs. some BS pre-season poll bias is beyond the AP (and coaches apparently).

This. Take Texas A&M for example. They beat #9 South Carolina and jumped from #21 to 9. They then waxed SMU, Lamar, and Rice to jump to #6. They escaped Arkansas and remained at 6 before getting thumped by Mississippi State. A&M was still getting credit for beating a #9 team even though South Carolina was nowhere near the 9th best team in the country.

And some thought they should have been #1 after the SC win.
