Minnesota icon, Louie Anderson Dead At 68, After Battle With Blood Cancer.

He was one of the "Original Five", along with Scott Hansen, Jeff Gerbino, "Wild Bill" Bauer, and Alex Cole, that kick-started Minnesota comedy at Mickey Finn's in the late 1970's.

Be prepared for a big tribute from The Common Man today (with maybe a guest appearance from his brother Alex).

He will be missed by the comedy world. He had talent. Sad. For those keeping track - Louie was miles above Saget in comedy. Not even close.

I saw him do standup in like 1989 or 1990 in college, when he was still a pretty big deal and I thought his show was crap. Same old bits about his brothers, the fat jokes, etc. I remember being pretty disappointed in the show at the time, I don't think I heard anything I hadn't ever heard him do before.

He definitely had some talent though. RIP Big Man

His bit about his mom's sweet potatoes is one of my all-time favorite pieces of low-key Midwestern comedy. 30 years later my brother and I will still quoted at family gatherings. RIP
