This phenomenon crosses team boundaries (Gophers/Vikings/etc.) but the self-loathing gets to me sometimes. The levels our fan base can go to manufacture negatives can be quite creative.

Exhibit A:

“Why you getting so excited over that <insert name of any defeated opponent> win? Until they beat Wisconsin it doesn’t mean anything.”

Followed by Wisconsin victory, and then...

“Geez, you are acting like it is a national championship and it is just one win over a rival, an uncharacteristically bad Wisconsin team.”

I’m seeing/hearing plenty of comments along the lines of the second quote today.
 

In most cases, it is the "non fan" fans / posters who go out of their way to diminish wins.
 

95%+ of posts on this site since yesterday’s victory have been positive. Focus on this instead.

This. They dismantled wisconsin. Not sure what else they can do in that one game. The season wasn’t perfect but yesterday was pretty damn close

I wasn’t referring specifically to this site. I have the Twitter machine and other social media as well. The thread was referring to MN sports fans. I also could have referred to an even smaller subset of fans, my family, and we are 100% positive.

Fair enough. My point (about this site) is that the past 24-hours has pretty much been utopia on here as far as positivity goes.

Its the same with all fan bases, there's always gonna be pessimists (take Philly Eagles for example, of turning on their team less than a year after winning the super bow). The general feeling from fans after beating Wisconsin right now though, is exhilarating. Its almost as pessimistic to dwell on pessimists, when the general overall feeling is overwhelmingly positive.
