Not to repeat the other media day blog, but I did feel bad for Kill during the big session. As Miller described it, the hallway session was even worse.

I think it's been clear that Kill keeps a subtle little chip on his shoulder at all times (former walk-on, coaching at the little schools, etc, etc.). I think this was a day he'll remember for awhile.

If you don't spew out a bunch of crap, nobody wants to ask you a question. Big deal, Coach kill is a no nonsense guy and that's boring for media types.

I watched it on BTN - there were only about 4 or 5 questions for Kill....then anybody anybody anybody...thanks Jerry. Kind of sad.

How many of the Twin Towns media were in Chicago? That is the problem.

Love Phil Miller, thanks.

Wow, I didn't realize there was 1500 reporters in the main q&a. From the sounds of it I would have guessed max 100.

He didn't say there were 1500 at the Q&A, but he did say there were 1500 "credentialed media members." I take that to mean that a total 1500 credentials were issued to journalists for the event.

Not sure if anyone else noticed on ESPN last night either---

SportsCenter had all the B1G coaches talking about Penn State players and recruitment. Quick soundbites, rapid fire from Bielema, Meyer, Dantonio, Wilson... even Bielema twice. No Kill.

The good news was, I didn't Ferentz either.

We're not a very good "media" team right now. We're not good, our coach is boring in the sense that he doesn't really offer a lot as far as soundbites or such during interviews (he can, but usually not during press conference like stuff), and let's face it, we're Minnesota, people just hate on us anyway.

Honestly though, I couldn't care less. I want this team humbled, focused, and with a chip on their shoulder. If this experience helps get them there, then all the better IMO.

Gotcha, I thought he meant that there were 1500 at the Q&A to get quotes.

I think this is a good thing right now. Recruiting attention would be the only reason a team like us wants to be in the spotlight, but we are absolutely sneaking through the grass right now. Coaches may not be fooled into think we are another 3 win team, but players, fans, and media might. That puts us in a place to show up prepared and ready to upset teams. I like it.

I can tell you where the MN media was. They are all camped out in Mankato preparing to give us minute to minute coverage of a team that won the same number of games the Gophers did last year but needed to play 4 more games to do so.

Boy did you nail that one!

Winning BIG TEN games will change media and fan interest. Winning your four cupcake games and having a losing record in the Big Ten every year just reinforces the Gophers are not worthy of any added interest.

I really like Coach Kill, but he is not telegenic by any stretch of the imagination.

One thing that stood out was Dantonio pretty much saying that their goal is the conference championship from here on out. I know they lost Cousins and all the wideouts,
but he seemed pretty pumped about both lines, the D-line especially. Kill has a tough road. All the teams in our division are going to be good.

I'm not bothered. Not much is expected out of the Gophers this year, and there's no controversey coming out of the U. If Kill were easy to provoke, I suppose reporters would be asking more questions. A rant from a coach is always entertaining. Let the Gophers send their message on the field.

I'm not bothered either; totally expected, and understood.

That said, I do think it's something that will stick in JK's craw(sp?) a little bit...

I have no problem with the Q&A. Let's stay under the radar and hit teams hard when it matters most. If we are 7-0 this team will get more than enough attention.

I hate to hear this primarily because I like Jerry Kill so much.

Somewhat off topic, I listened to Cooper being interviewed on KFAN and he's the most recent guy to talk about 'Shede being a monster. He described him as 6-7 or 6-8 and 315-320. Said he still moves like a tight end. Said he's a freak of nature. Hope he has a big year.
