Years ago I read a biography of Woody Hayes. He told a story about a player who would ride a dorm elevator and when he was alone with one other person he would "beat the hell out of them." Woody said the guy was a good football player but he eventually had to kick him off the team. My impression was that he had little empathy for the victims, and didn;t think that it was really a big deal. Another thought that I had was that Woody brought this AHole on campus and was at least partially responsible for the beatings. Although people are responsible for their own actions, Hayes did bring a person who to OSU who would not have been there had it not been for football and being recruited by Woody Hayes.
