Perhaps the Gophers should take a look at this guy, 2010 MAC Coach of the Year. Not a ton of experience as a head coach and granted they struggled last year but he has really turned that program around fast. He's also been an assistant at Notre Dame, Texas, LSU and a few others. He's also got the requisite Minnesota connections as he was a grad assistant in 1988. He's still a young guy too (46).

He interviewed for the Gopher job when Brewster was hired. He was the Notre Dame offensive coordinator at the time.

Plus, he's a Notre Dame grad, so you know that earns him extra points with the man doing the hiring.

Of the rookie coaches, he is the most impressive. Has that leadership quality and has done a good job in a short time.

Much as I feel about Larry Fedora: ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ While it wouldn't make me irate like Trestman or Chryst, it also does zero for me. I'd rather give Horton a chance.

I went to Miami, and still follow them closely. The program was a mess when he took over, so I would give him a mulligan on the 1-win his first season. Still, I would hope we could get a guy with a better resume than 1 good MAC season under his belt.

Title

He also just beat Jerry Kill and the 21st nationally ranked Northern Illinois squad for the MAC title.

He get's to the right school he could be a winner

Not saying it is the Minnesota job, but the guy does look like he has a little ability to coach football and maybe a little luck. I liked some of the Vignettes ESPN showed of him firing up his players. Seems like a strong personality, that players respond to but still has sideline awareness and calmness. Look's like he has some of the same timeout issue's Brew had. Seems like he would be better off staying at Miami and build up his resume and he will likely get a more highly thought of job.

I hear good things about him... but it was a flukey ending... if I'm not mistaken, they converted a 4th and 20 on a tipped pass... I was in-and-out of the game, but I don't think his coaching was the difference.

honestly, I'm happy for Mike Haywood but this would really be reaching for straws. I'd like to keep our focus on the A-List. Not ready to settle, and won't be happy if Maturi does settle. I'm not a member of save gopherfootball blah blah, but I still can't believe either that he is in charge AGAIN of picking the new coach. Double Ugh.
