Maui Invitational: Nov. 25-27, Lahaina Civic Center, Hawaii
Tournament favorite: Syracuse
Likely NCAA Tournament teams: Baylor, California, Gonzaga
Potential spoilers: Arkansas, Dayton
Darkhorse: Minnesota
Rounding out the field: Chaminade
One way to know if a tournament is really good is how hard it is to keep the best teams away from genuine challenges in the opening round. Syracuse, a top-10 team for most who’ve done preseason rankings, has to face a Minnesota squad that returns its top two scorers: veteran guards Andre Hollins and Austin Hollins. The Gophers have to rebuild their frontcourt, but we’ve always liked 6-11 center Elliott Eliason.
Go Gophers!!
Can't wait!
Last year we were in the likely NCAA category, two years ago everyone was picking us to win the weak old spice classic
Yes but remember that UNC was in that tourney and they were in the top 10 at the time if I remember right.
That was the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. Gophers also beat West Virginia. Arguably the biggest waste of two quality nonconference wins in Gopher history. Still hard to swallow that team didn't make the NCAA tourney. The Gophers don't get two quality wins like that (prior to the B1G season) very often.
