Former Oregon head coach Mike Bellotti, who earlier this week was tabbed by a newspaper as a potential candidate for the open job at Minnesota, didn’t rule out a return to the coaching ranks during an interview Thursday.

“I don’t know; we’ll see,” said Bellotti, now an analyst for ESPN. “I like what I’m doing. The travel is a little crazy, but I’m dealing with it. If the right job came up, I would listen. But right now I like doing what I’m doing.”

So you're saying there's a chance ...

He's playful as a kitten.

I don't want this to sound pejorative, but he sounds like a high school girl waiting to get asked to a dance.

Boy, do I read that differently. "If the right job came up, I would listen." No mention at all of Minnesota. Of course, he didn't say, "Minnesota isn't the right job." So that's something, I guess.

I will take that as interest in the job. He's not likely to say "Please, please, hire me!"

I guess I'd have to see the original question. The way the writer frames it is that he was asked about the Minnesota job and said "I don't know; we'll see." I'm taking it as "I'll listen to Minnesota" for now though, because I want to have hope :)

By the way, Bellotti on ESPNU a few days ago was very complimentary of our facilities and compared the job to the Oregon job when he took over.

The guy obviously wants to get back into coaching and he knows that his time is running out since he'll be 60 in December.

If he were offered a job by Minnesota or Colorado this year he'd take it.

Unless the U and Belotti are a bunch of ass-clowns, a lot of conversations will be taking place that we will never know anything about.

I don't want credible leaks. It would just suggest incompetence.

I think he is a good coach, my only tiny complaint I have is that I still remember him whining about Oregon not getting respect and how they should be getting invites to the bigger BCS bowls and then his teams would go and lose those games to the lesser opponent.

So you're TELLING me there's a chance. Why does everyone always mess this up in the exact same way??? One of the weird phenomenons of our society.

Dang it. I had an inkling it was wrong right after I posted it, but just went with it.

Shamed.

The classics are always misquoted.

From MacBeth:

Misquote: “Lead on, Macduff”
Actual Quote: “Lay on, Macduff, and damned be him who first cries ‘Hold! enough!’”

From Hamlet:

Misquote: “Alas, poor Yorick. I knew him well.”
Actual Quote: “Alas, poor Yorick. I knew him, Horatio – a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy.”

It's not just you. It seems everyone thinks it's "saying." I went on a rant about this strange phenomenon last year on GH. Of course, everyone thought I was just crazy then, as they probably do now.

Consider this:

There are 3 youtube clips entitled "so you're saying there's a chance," with the same scene, while I could only find 2 clips with the correct title, "so you're telling me there's a chance."

More people quote it the exact wrong way then people who actually get it right. And this sample is made up of people who are probably more likely to get the quote correctly since they like the scene so much that they actually go to the lengths of posting it on youtube. Plus, they probably just watched the scene a couple of times right before posting it and typing in the title, which you would think would even further the likelihood that they would know the line.

In the four times I have seen this quote referred to on GH, all four have gotten it wrong in the exact same phrasing.

It would be like the majority of the population all thinking Jack Nicholson's "You can't handle the truth!!!" was really "You can't handle the reality!!!"

He's a washed up coach. We can do much better. Maturi has a list as long as Santa's of potential canidates who want to come here.

Was Bellotti in line for the Ohio St. job at one time? Did he decline or did they go in a different direction?

Hypothetically...We hire Bellotti: How long before Maturi just looks at him and says "So Phil Knight..."?

While at Oregon, Bellotti almost annually would announce that he was no longer a candidate for such-and-such job, even if the school with the job opening never showed any public interest in hiring him. I never cared much for his personality, but I think I've warmed to him a little now that he's ditched the porn stache.

How about if he comes here, and when it's time for him to retire, we have an orderly transition, with him being part of the search process, and then he goes on to take over as the Gophers radio announcer.

"Luke, I am your father!" is actually "No, I am your father!"

[sorry, I should have put some sort of spoiler alert on this post] :p

Would be great if he brought Boise's OC, Byran Harsin, with him, as Fringe Bowl speculates.

Why wait until he retires. Hell, why wait till he is hired.

Relax Francis.

Our need for a new coach is just slightly higher than out need for a new radio announcer. But only just slightly. Dave Lee is to sportscasters as Tim Brewster is to coaching? Not quite fair, Brewster could improve...
