Agreed, the best they can hope for is for the CFP to be expanded.

How ably the top Group 5 team play in the 8 team FBS playoff and the top FCS team play in the Group 5 playoff? Getting closer to soccer format everyday.

It's possible, if they want to accept being officially second-tier. This would probably give incentive to the top FCS teams to move up to the Group of Five.
