Talking to a member of our golf club who played for Michigan in the 1960's. 2nd string QB and other positions when needed.

He remembers playing in Memorial Stadium when Sandy Stephans was our QB. MN won in a close game and the field was very muddy,

He follows Mich football very closely. He said that Harbough has rounded up most of his assistants that he had at Stanford to join him ($$$$).

That was his answer to me when I said that I hope the Gophers can beat Mich next year as the winner will keep the Jug for a number of years before they play again.

He said that when he played, the Jug was the most important game each year.

Presently he lives in Canada as he played Canadian football a number of years, and stayed.

We will see -------

Meaning what ... that he thinks Michigan will beat us right away in Harbaugh's first year because he was able to hire familiar assistant coaches?

By the way, we only skip Michigan in 2016 and are back playing them again in 2017 due to the new 9 game conf schedule.

They hired Jed Fisch. They'll beat some of the teams they lost close games to in 2015 (e.g. Maryland). I'm not convinced with their current QBs and Jed Fisch as QB coach that the teams that beat the snot out of them, at home, for instance, have a reason to cower in fear simply at the mention of the word Harbaugh.

Michigan will be Michigan in short order under Harbaugh, but I predict a parting of the ways with Mr. Fisch shortly after this next season, that coincides an increase in offensive production and QB development. This years game should be a good battle. Not saying we will win, but I think coming in, we have no reason to tremble in fear at this game. Prepare well, execute, I like our chances. We'll see what 2017 looks like.

My thoughts on Harbaugh: He is established as a very good-great coach - because of that this upcoming season will be a true evaluation of Brady Hoke. The talent will not be that different for this first season, plus there is a huge question mark at QB. If Hoke was truly just an incompetent coach, we could see Michigan make a large jump next season. If he was just a "normal" coach that, through recruiting/bad luck, saw a significant decline in talent across the board, Michigan will likely be pretty similar to last year.

Obviously, there is plenty of grey area in these two options. Either way, I assume Harbaugh will elevate Michigan back to where they historically have been in 2-3 years, but next year we should have a pretty decent chance of coming out on top based on last year's curb stomp (although, I think last year's game would have been very different if Gardiner had played the entire game).

I don't understand why everyone thinks it is a given that he will turn MI back around? There are a lot of very good/great coaches that couldn't repeat their success in new surroundings. It typically happens when they start to believe all the hype about themselves and become unbearably arrogant. Harbaugh most certainly fits that description.

Harbaugh won at Stanford. Is it easier or harder to win at Stanford than it is to win at Michigan?

Harbaugh is a Michigan man. Would you expect him to be humble and question his abilities to coach?

Perhaps Harbaugh won't turn the Wolverines program around. Perhaps he'll do a "Lou Holtz" on them and leave after a year or two. But, based upon how he turned around Stanford and the 49ers, I wouldn't bet against him significantly improving the Michigan program.

What I really enjoy is watching the banter between Michigan and ohio start up again. Harbaugh has already lobbed some dandies into the state to the south. I thoroughly look forward to the revival of the not-so-civil war between those two schools.
