Michigan hire Raven's D-Coordinator

He also has a very good reputation as a recruiter and has quite a bit of college experience, including at Florida a few years ago when they won a title.

The funny thing is that Mattison would've been a better HC hire than Hoke.

Yeah, he looks like a very strong hire for them. Kind of surprised that he'd leave an NFL DC gig that he's having great success with in favor of returning to college football, as that would seem like a lateral move at absolute best. It's very possible he's concerned about the impending NFL lockout, but it sounds like he just loves coaching college ball, and apparently he loves recruiting and is quite good at it, and I'm sure Michigan made it worth his while financially.

Good hire.

Honestly that is a home-run hire for Michigan. Mattison has been highly successful where ever he has been DC. He has been a quality DC at Michigan, Notre Dame and Florida to go along with his very good stint with the Ravens. This is his 3rd time he has coached with Brady Hoke.

What this hire tells me, Hoke is all about winning, he doesn't care if his assistants are as big or bigger than he is.

He is 62 years old so probably not chasing the head coach job at this point in his career. He also has a grandchild on the way soon and his daughter lives in Ann Arbor. The chance to finish out your career coaching with a friend and being able to see your grandkida grow up has got to be appealing.

That's cool. Good for him.

People will see next year that good coaching can't make up for no talent.

No talent?

You really think Michigan has "no talent" on D? Seriously? You, sir, will soon learn the difference between the likes of Mr. Mattison and Greg Robinson.

Didn't say they have no talent. Said that his tenure at Michigan will prove what I said. I anticipate they will have a middle of the road defense next year despite having maybe the best defensive coach in the conference.
