Michael Rand: "This is Al Nolen's team now"

And they did pretty well last year without Nolen.

Maybe we should say "WTF?"

Haha, good point!

I don't think its bad that this is "Al Nolen's team now"....it doesn't mean he needs to score 15-20ppg (or we would be in major trouble). It means he needs to lead with defensive pressure/intensity, pushing the tempo, driving to the hole, and finding people that can score. In other words, if Al plays really well (ala the PR tourney) then the Gopher team is in very good shape. If he does not play well, we could struggle quite a bit.

Maybe I'm alone on this, but I'm not worried about a Devoe-less team this year, but next year I think we will have a gaping hole in the offense.

It's JMO but I think we have a GAPING hole in our offense right now with four of the five starters as absolutley no threat from 18 feet out.

we did pretty well last year without nolen? we beat ohio state with him and struggled all year without him. love him or hate him he's the glue defensively and when it comes to chemistry. now accept the kids who are still hear and practicing and playing hard every day. i don't believe that al is a future pro or 1st team all big ten but he's the best we have and we need him to play smart and we need him to be aggressive and we need him to stay healthy. go gophs

I agree I am worried that teams are really going to pack it in us this year. Don't we get a little help from Oto next year. I believe that was one of his strengths was that he could shoot it pretty well for a 6'8 guy. Has anyone heard any reports about how he looks in practice? I think that Tubby does really well getting athletic marvels but shooters not so much. Since hes been here I can think of Joseph, Bostik (even though it didn't pan out), and Oto who were known as good shooters coming in. Maybe throw Hollins in the mix too.

More like 12-14 feet out

Oh well, there's not one specific blueprint for what a good basketball team should look like. I've always liked watching Nolen run the show and I will continue to do so
