ESPN is reporting sources, that Al Golden has accepted an offer.

Good hire for Miami. Much like the Kill to Minnesota hire, it may not be sexy, but your getting yourself a very good head coach. Always figured he was going to be the one to replace JoePa, but I have to admit, this is a major coup for Golden.

Golden was never going to come to MN...he had his eyes on a bigger prize and Miami does fit the bill. That said, if this gets done...Temple is going to be pissed...both because they lose their savior...but also because they are behind the time in getting a new coach.

Miami is going to have to pay a big buyout to get Golden...but Temple is still going to have trouble getting a quality coach to replace Golden...look for them to go outside the box on this hire...

Do you think the Delaware HC make a good fit for Temple or do you think he is waiting for a bigger jump? I think it would be a big hire if they got someone like him. The guy is a excellent D-IAA HC.

But seriously if I'm Temple, I'd find out just how bad Leach and Fulmer want back in.

The problem is, do either of those two find themselves bigger than that job? Mason has been fighting that stigma ever since he was gone from Minnesota. Fulmer is the type that maybe would do it, but Leach heck no.

I have no idea. That's why I think it would be a good test? How bad do you want a job? Temple may be the level they have to accept. And if you're Temple, you have to roll the dice. Golden was great, but many before him failed. At the least, he's leaving behind talent, and if Leach came in, they just might draw flies to the Eagles Stadium at least for a few games.

Mason would be a great fit at Temple...mostly regional recruiting...not against the big boys...Philly press sucks and nobody gets along with them.

I don't know about the Delaware guy...but Temple was paying Golden 1.2 mil and they will get a big chunk of change from the buyout ($1.5 - 2 mil reported) so they could go after a guy like Leach...it remains to be seen.

Now Temple is competing with NIU for a coach...wondering if they will hire from within or if Golden is taking his assistants with him...that could get interesting if Temple wants to hire his DC Mark Dinofrio...who has been with him for 6 years. Losing Dinofrio would be a big hit to Golden.

(From earlier thread):

Had breakfast this AM with a buddy of mine who's wife works high up with Temple U Hospital...she told him last night that her friend who works in the Presidents office overheard a conversation between the Prez and AD about Golden and him leaving Temple...exact quote her friend heard was [AD to Prez] "Al isn't going anywhere this year and probably not next."

What kind of idiot would leave a juggernaut program like Delaware to step down to the level of Temple?

Fighting or promoting?

The quote was accurate when it was given to me...of course when Miami and Florida jobs opened up 3 weeks after that quote was given and Temple didn't get a bowl game...things changed. Miami targeted Golden after Gruden said no and they got their man. Guess some jobs are just too good to pass up....and people change their minds.

But I am sure nobody has ever told you something dbag and then 3 weeks later changed thier minds....because you've been on this board for years..

"Al isn't going anywhere this year and probably not next."

I really don't see any room for subtlety and/or "changing one's mind" in that statement. It looks pretty straightforward to me.

Had you just said all along that "Golden's not leaving for Minnesota," I wouldn't even be giving you a hard time. But you deserve to be called out for saying 310897632876 times that "Golden's not going anywhere," when anyone with a brain knows that no one is staying at Temple when he gets a decent job offer.

Maybe next time don't trumpet quite so hard when your stance is indefensible.

Here is what I wrote on 11/8/2010, "Had breakfast this AM with a buddy of mine who's wife works high up with Temple U Hospital...she told him last night that her friend who works in the Presidents office overheard a conversation between the Prez and AD about Golden and him leaving Temple...exact quote her friend heard was [AD to Prez] "Al isn't going anywhere this year and probably not next."
She had her ears open because she is a Temple alum and huge football fan and I was breaking her balls last week about us stealing Golden...guess not...and I'm going to owe her a bottle of grey goose if he doesn't even interveiw...which it looks like he wont.

He was #2 on my list after Leach...bummer."

As you can clearly see, it wasn't my stance it was an exact quote that was passed on to me...and at the time, I believe it to be true. After that quote happened, Temple got passed over for a bowl game, Edsall won the big east and is going to a bcs bowl and the Miami job opened up and Golden was thier top choice...imagine how things change. But it wasn't my stance...it was a quote dpol.

If anything, the person with egg on his face is the AD who told his boss that Golden was locked and good to go...after we hired Kill, I quit looking into the Temple situation or I probably would have heard before hand the Golden was looking at Miami...but frankly, I didn't care...we had our coach.

We'll see. They hired a guy who has 0 wins over MAC teams with a winning conference record in his 5 years there. It is a major coup for Golden, but it could also be his last good job if he fails.

Florida is in the same boat. They hired a coach that has not experience as the head man. Both are suppose to be great recruiters. We'll have to see how it goes. We hired a coach that has won everywhere he has gone and been a head man foe 17 years. I'll take our odds on this one.

Are you seriously saying you would take Jerry Kill over Will Muschamp?

Has Will proven anything as a head coach? Florida is taking a big leap of faith with the hire. Yes when you look at everything, I'd rather have Kill. Texas and Florida recruit themselves.

Let's hope Golden can keep the Hurricanes playing well. If their prospects dim and they fall from football grace, I'd hate for people to start calling them the "Golden Showers."

I don't know if Texas is going to "recruit itself." Mike Sherman finally has the legs back under the Texas A & M program and they could provide the Longhorns with some stiff competition for top-tier players.

I think Mack Brown will be out very soon. I can't imagine kids going there when everyone is leaving including the coach in waiting.

I am living in Miami now and people here are very upset about the hiring of Al Golden.

They really ripped Golden on local radio this week for a variety of reasons...among the reasons:

1)They say he's a poor gameday coach...Great recruitor but poor at game planning and making adjustments.

2)He won't be able to recruit the black talent in and around South Florida. They say Miami needs a coach who can relate to the local talent here.

3)He had the most rescources for Football of any school in the MAC and he couldn't even get his program into the Championship Game.

I'd rather have Jerry Kill's resume than Al Golden's...

Having said that, the Gophers were stubburn and foolish not to go after Mike Leach or Wisconsin's O-Coordinator Chryst.

I do think Kill and his staff will execute on the field better than what we saw under Brewster....The only question is, will he get enough talent to compete and make a bowl game by his 2nd season? I think that will be Kill's mandate. Bowl game by 2012 or face the axe!

Miami should be very happy with Golden...he was #2 on my wish list behind Leach. Don't be fooled by his record at Temple...if you have never been to the campus...think slum...and you understand...plus they play at a stadium that is a full 30 minutes drive from campus...almost impossible to win at Temple...yet he did. As for game day stuff...we'll see.

Regarding recruiting...he has been recruiting urban kids from NY, Philly, Northern NJ, Baltimore and DC for the last 5 years...if you look where his players came from...you will see some rough neighborhoods in these metro areas...so I think he can translate to Miami metro...especially if he brings in a couple of Asst coaches with strong ties to the area. I think Golden will win in Miami.

Yeah, ok. Firing a coach after 2 years ought to do us a lot of good.

Is this (Fire Kill after 2 years) going to be your new "thing" now that you can't tout the "Weber-to-TE" mantra anymore?
