Miami DA: will proceed with charges against Mbakwe

Meh. At this point my attitude is we'll see them when we see them. This hopeless venture of keeping an eye and ear out for any Mbakwe and White update is tiring and not worth the effort. Until I see them on the court, I don't care.

That's disappointing, since the vibe seemed to be that this would get dropped by the end of the year. But awag has a point. I do think that Myron basically has one source in the Miami AD office and one source only and is reporting whatever they tell him. As with most of things of this nature, the official line is probably 'full speed ahead' right up until the matter is dropped, if that's what is going to occur.

My feeling is this: The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.

It probably isn't as rosy as Tubby indicated to Katz. It also probably isn't as much of a slam-dunk conviction as the Miami DA's office thinks.

Did he do it? Who knows.

Anyone who says they know 100 percent is lying.

I always said that it seemed too good to be true that the Gophers could have Mbakwe and White. Turns out it was. After this season it's back to mediocrity. I'm not sure Elliot Elliason is the savor of this program.
Damn...:(

And I'm not sure that BigGopherFan is the "savor" of all GopherHole Threads. Damn.

Yeah, it's a damn shame that White and Mbakwe are the only two good players Tubby's ever recruited in his 20 years. I doubt he'll be able to recruit anyone even half as good ever again. Damn.

I'm not sure this is news. It wouldn't be up the Miami DA's office to drop the charges. That authority would sit with the Judge to dismiss the case.

What the DA means to say is, "the case is HOPEFULLY going forward." It is up to the DA whether to drop the charges, but if these depos turn up nothing Mbakwe is going to move to dismiss this case.

I predicted before that the case would be gone by January 1. I stick by that assessment.

Perhaps a late christmas present for trevor? I mean if they cant find the accuser that means she cant give a depo and there is no case, amirite?

If you looked at this objectively, you would see that the Gophers are graduating their two best players from this season (Johnson and Westbrook) and will likely not have their two biggest recruits from 2009 next year (Mbakwe and White). And the two players coming in (Elliason and Hollins) are not going to make an immediate impact and are looked at as possibly future role players.
Think about it...

becasue if you knew anything about how courts work the DA can drop a charge when they want, THEY ARE THE ONE CHARGING HIM.

Great! Why is the January 1st date significant though?

College players develop over time. If you looked at the team two years ago would Johnson and Westbrook have been the best two players. I doubt it. Others will step up and develop into promising players by then.

Can we take a step back please? We have no idea what's going to happen between now and next year, so can we please stop with the "we're going to suck" talk. We'll be fine either way. The team will have plenty of young guys who will be another year smarter and better regardless of whether Royce and/or Trevor are here. And to be honest, none of us know for sure how much Hollins and/or Elliason will or will not contribute.

You're not entirely wrong, but the way you said it made me think you were suggesting we're permamently returning to medicority. I don't think that's the case. I'd also be willing to bet that at least one of Mbakwe or White will be on the team next year. And if they're not, I would expect Tubby to use at least one of thier scholarships to sign someone this spring, probably a JC Power Forward. Will that person be as talented as them? Probably not, but you never know.

Depending on what he was talking about Trevor updated his facebook last night with a .. should I stay or should I go comment. It could have been to McDonalds for all we know but..

Hopefully, he'll be here.

Time to buckle up and play with the players we have. I think the distractions have been as much of the problem as anything. Tubby can coach this team to the NCAA and pull off a few upsets along the way. Not the most talented team, but as we so in year one, he did a lot with a team that struggled the year before he came in. We certainly have struggled a bit so far, but it has more to do with the team coming together, gaining confidence, and understanding their place on the team. A TEAM can do great things once they all get on the same page. Regardless of having "might, maybe's, and could be's on the court. I'm sure Tubby is trying to bring this together to be set for the Big Ten. It's not going to be a cake walk and their will be time to pull your hair out along the way, but we will be a decent big ten team when all is said and done.

If he's waited this long I'd hope he'd see this through. At least get the trial overwith and see where things are. I wouldn't have blamed him if he'd left, since I think Maturi should have let him know his status in August not November. But since he's waited this long, I'd be surprised if he left now. What would be the point? It's not like he can transfer anywhere and still play this year at this point.

Me? No. I do actually know a lot of people with Facebooks but it's not something that I'm interested in doing. My daughter tells me.

Hamilton Burger always had to drop the charges when Perry exposed the real criminal.
