Mr. Maturi:

Your job as AD is not only to hire a qualified football coach but to also produce revenue for the U of M Athletics Department. As you know, people have been bringing up the name of Mike Leach, with overwhelming poll numbers of fans backing the hiring of Leach. Fans that support and get excited by the coach buy tickets, and tickets bought generate not only revenue for the football team but also extra money that goes to other non-revenue sports.

If you have not interviewed him, you need to. If you don't plan on interviewing him you need to change your mind. You owe us fans at least the effort of an interview with a qualified coach who has made it known that he would like the job.

It concerns me that we started our search for a coach before any other school but yet we have not used that time wisely to even interview available coaches who were not tied down by committments to other schools. It also bothers me that we have not pursued or interviewed Gruden. If the reports are true that he met with Miami, why are we not hearing reports that he would or has interviewed here?

You owe it to us fans to explore all possible avenues.

Did you send that to him?

Also, should we be erked that Colorado seems to have their coach + offensive and defensive coordinators in place and they started their search two weeks after us?

No, because they hired an NFL tight ends coach from Mike Shanahan's staff!!!

Gruden has no interest in coaching the Hurricanes but he's waiting by the phone for a call from the Gophers.

We should be outraged!! A tight ends coach on Shanahan's staff as well as Dan McCarney are off the market. We are doomed.

Thank God someone had the temerity to blast Maturi on an internet message board.

Why are you being condescending? How do you know what Gruden is thinking, maybe he is interested in college coaching and they didn't offer him enough money. Slight possibility but maybe if we paid the right price he might think of coming here. The point is that Miami at least seems to have made the effort to explore it with him, it doesn't appear that we have.

And yes, I e-mailed the above to Maturi.

Great letter
