After the Golden Gophers scored their first win of the season last week, it was another long night for them on Friday. After a 35-7 loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes, P.J. Fleck's fourth year at the helm of the program is starting to look like a major disappointment.

Last year, the Golden Gophers went 11-2 in Fleck's third season as the head coach, and expectations were relatively high coming into the 2020 season. Instead, Minnesota has already eclipsed last year's number of losses, and the most recent one came in the form of a blowout to a division rival. Now, questions are already coming up about whether last year's success under Fleck was just a flash in the pan.

Fleck and the Golden Gophers took a lot of heat after that ugly loss to Iowa. Keep reading for some of the college football media's reactions to the game.

Go Gophers!!

When you are good and come into a season with expectations, the media will torch you when you look incompetent. That's part of being evaluated with the big boys - which is what Fleck wants.

The fact that people are starting to question him shows that they aren't just eating up his goofy schtik. The schtik doesn't impact anybody if the team wins. When they play like hot garbage, the schtik suddenly gets called into question.

Deserves the torching. Bad coaching and poor preparation based on his blow hard talking. Recruit some more wide outs maybe.

Wisconsin is going to beat our a$$ so bad it ain’t even funny. Dismantle will be a polite way to describe what they are gonna do.
They dismantled us last year but we may be a different team when we play them.

While there are many problems, I like the wideouts from the 2020 and 2021 classes.
If the team is probably headed for a 1 or 2 win season, I'd like to see more of the younger players at QB, RB and WR. Don't wear down Ibrahim and Bateman.
