BadgerWire is first out of the gate with an astute prediction:

November 27: At Minnesota

While it sounds crazy, this will be the first true road test of Graham Mertz’s career.

I’m pretty high on the Gophers this year, that assuming their defense can’t go anywhere but up. But Tanner Morgan still has Mohamed Ibrahim in the backfield and Chris Autman-Bell on the outside, and P.J. Fleck didn’t suddenly forget how to coach.

I think Wisconsin will have the West locked up by this point thanks to Iowa having one or two losses and the Gophers losing to Ohio State and either Indiana or Iowa.

So, while it sounds crazy, I think Minnesota catches the Badgers looking ahead and takes Paul Bunyan’s Axe.

Final Score: Minnesota 28, Wisconsin 20

Go Gophers!!

Astute indeed. Rooting hard for Penn State in Week 1 against them. That swing game could have a lot of sway on the West race.

Plot twist: It's not the first true road game of Graham Mertz's career, because he's not their starting QB when this game comes around.

So you think this game could determine the B1G west champion but they’ll have benched their QB?

This writer aside, I find it interesting that the national consensus is that after equally disappointing 2020 seasons, Wisconsin will fully bounce back and Minnesota won't.

Though it seems the sharps are starting to pump Minnesota more in the last couple weeks. BTN guys who visited practices were really high on the Gophers last night.

Yeah. I know what I saw from him last year, and I see the smoke that they have backups who look better in practice. I think Wisconsin's Big Ten schedule is favorable enough they can keep winning with mediocre, bench-able QB play.

And there's always injuries and Covid, which have maybe a 25% chance of doing it.

Mertz getting benched would be wild. His NIL sponsors would be frustrated

I was under the impression that east and west titles were awarded based on records in the division. Is that incorrect?

Wisconsin won't be 11-0. The division will be decided the final week of the season.

Total conference record decides standings. Division record for the most part doesn't mean anything.

Correct. WI plays Penn State, ND, Iowa and Michigan. All potential losses before playing the Gophers.

Gophers will manhandle WI in the trenches. We will blow them out, 38 to 28 and it will only be that close because they get a garbage time TD while we rest guys for the B1G championship game.😍

They have Penn State, ND, and Michigan all in the first 4 weeks of the season!
Yeah. And they aren’t that good either. Could be 1-3.
Could be 4-0 as Michigan and penn state weren’t that good last year and ND is playing a badger reject at QB
