Media Prediction Thread: Nebraska at Minnesota

Athlon chimes in:

Final Analysis

It’s no secret that Mike Riley’s job is on the line. Or maybe it is already doomed. But as mentioned above, Nebraska is 4-5 and will be underdogs vs. Penn State and Iowa after this one. If there is any hope for a 6-6 mark and potential bowl berth, it has to start here. The Gophers will have more winnable matchups with Northwestern and Wisconsin. This game could be a springboard to a really hot finish and leave a positive light shining on the inaugural season under P.J. Fleck.

Games between even teams aren’t usually won by the offenses or the defenses. Most of the time it’s the little things. Which makes it important to note that the Gophers are fourth in the Big Ten in turnover margin, while the Huskers are 13th and the Gophers are also the least penalized team in the conference (33 in 10 games) and the Huskers are ninth (59 total). The way things are trending, put your money on the land of 10,000 lakes.

Prediction: Minnesota 31, Nebraska 21

Go Gophers!!

Definitely not a dink.

NJ.com chimes in:

Nebraska (4-5, 3-3) at Minnesota (4-5, 1-5)
Noon/FoxSports1
The spread: Minnesota by 2.5.
The pick: Nebraska 23, Minnesota 20
Why? Considering the schedules ahead, any path to 6-6 for either team includes winning this game. So it's a bowl eligibility elimination game. Minnesota, which has scored just 20 points total in its last two games, has attempted the fewest passes in the Big Ten. Nebraska should borrow some of that philosophy considering quarterback Tanner Lee has thrown 13 interceptions. Being on the road is a good thing for the embattled Huskers this week.

Go Gophers!!

ESPN chimes in:

Nebraska at Minnesota, Noon ET, FS1

Sherman: The Gophers are enduring the expected ups and downs of a team in transition, according to coach P.J. Fleck, who attempted to explain it this week with a poorly drawn graph. And what is Nebraska’s trajectory? Easier to draw, for sure, as the ship in Lincoln continues to sink with the Cornhuskers and coach Mike Riley aboard. Minnesota 24, Nebraska 21

Go Gophers!!

Let's hope the combination of the cold and the team simply giving up on Mike Riley and Tanner Lee sucks away their will to play hard.

But if Lee gets going early, they could rally...
