per The Big Lead:

Linebacker Roquan Smith, the No. 47 overall recruit in the 247 Composite Rankings, committed to the UCLA Bruins on National Signing Day. Media interviews following the TV ceremony delayed Smith from sending in his paperwork. This gave Georgia coaches an opening to blow up his phone, as reports surfaced that UCLA DC Jeff Ulbrich was heading to the Atlanta Falcons.

Ulbrich was the major reason Smith committed to UCLA. He has now reopened his recruiting.

Go Gophers!!

Get them to sign on the line which is dotted!

Having coaches wait to announce they're leaving a school until after the recruits sign ranks right up there with Petrino's antics in terms of sleaze.

The interview with the kid just after he signed was hilarious. He was 55-45 Georgia going in....picked UCLA in front of cameras/family/friends/school....and during the interview said he was going to wait until the end of the day to decide.

Here is another story about a coach leaving after signing day. In this case, it was a RB from Michigan who had committed to OSU, but then had second thoughts after Harbaugh was hired. The RB coach from OSU continued to recruit him right up to the end, the kid decided to stick with OSU, then the coach bailed. I hope he can get released from OSU.

This happens all the time. At this point kids are crazy to commit to any school based only on the coach (head coach or position coach) because there are no guarantees on how long that guy is going to be around. Obviously the coach plays a big roll in the school that is picked but as a recruit you are foolish if you are also not considering whether or not you would still want to be at that school under a different coach because there is a better then average chance that you will experience turnover in the coaching staff during your 4+ years at the school.

This is why top recruits that Kill wants need to come and play here at the U! ;)

We've got room here for him. Plenty of room at linebacker.

Especially a position coach. Those guys come and go regularly from schools. Reportedly the OSU coach interviewed the day after signing day with the Bears and then was hired later that day. But it's not like OSU is not going to have an RB coach anymore, they are reportedly going to hire the RB coach from ND who also recruited Weber and I'm sure has a relationship with him. I don't care personally if Weber stays or goes, I'd wait a few weeks and let the dust settle so to speak and then let him out then if he really wants to leave. I don't think Weber is that great of a prospect regardless, but he was doing his part in playing the game and making the staff work hard to secure his re-commitment leading up to signing day. Most players don't cause that kind of drama when they're already committed.
