McGarry ruined it for us, plain and simple. Who the hell makes an obvious hold in FG territory on 3rd-and-1? That's really stupid football. The tide turned drastically on that play; where Eskridge would have otherwise gotten to a first-and-goal. Pathetic. The team and the fans seemed to lose a lot of energy after that, tacked onto the lost easy TD opportunity at the end of the half.

Here's an equation that works: Very few penalties = road win vs. Northwestern. Very many penalties = tough games (when they shouldn't have been) and a couple of home losses that easily could have been wins. This is NOT bad coaching - it is bad execution. COME ON TEAM!

Bad execution comes from bad coaching but i agree this is not all on the staff. You just gotta know with these things. Holding AWAY FROM THE PLAY shouldn't happen. EVER.

Disciplined teams don't commit foolish penalty after foolish penalty...Brew jumped on the troops hard about this in prep for the NW game and the result was one penalty all day in Evanston. Apparently, he thought it was fixed...Hello! It's not fixed with these guys and it needs to be reinforced every week for some reason. That aspect of the problem is on the coaches with all due respect to sloppy player lapses.
