What is the deal with the twins? RS Jr's and and yet the coaches have to burn a shirt and play a true freshman Conner Mayes. Will they get cut loose next year? Have either of them even played on special teams? I understand they are great kids, but they have not done it on the field.

They aren't good enough to play college football at this level. Hopefully they get their degrees and have good, upstanding lives. Is that what you wanted to hear?

Another name dropping thread. Whoopee!!!

They must be the unsung heroes of the practice squad running opponents' plays.

Players who you'll possibly never see on the playing field on game days, nevertheless are real critical to the success of the team.

I hate ignorant, uninformed comments like this. Not every player is there for the same reasons.

FYI, it's "McAvoys". Not the possessive form.

"Cut loose"? Wow. I realize that happens around the country but unless a player has done something wrong in terms of academics, behavior, or their work ethic in practice, no player deserves to get cut loose just because they don't have enough talent.

"Cut loose" is a strong term, but if there are non-contributing players who have earned their degrees, some times they do not come back for a fifth year. Usually termed as a "mutual decision." Not saying that will be the case with these guys, but it does happen every now and then (even at upstanding Big Ten institutions). If they get their degree is the key part.

I believe they are both on pace to graduate this year and are outstanding students.
Since the U has honored their obligation to them as students, I would assume Jerry would tell them they can play their 5th year, but it would be on their own dime. It is standard practice everywhere.
Relax! You misinterpreted what I was getting at.

Come on man, that never happens on GH.

Not this time. Sorry, but that is just plain ignorance. What you are getting at doesn't happen on a Jerry Kill team.

There are three reasons that guys are let go: 1. break team rules and standards, 2. academics, 3. Don't practice hard.

Those of you that are willing to throw out the Jordan Hinojosa example, see above.

The OP makes perfect sense, and is basically what happened last year with Cameron Wilson. The McAvoy's are 4th year juniors and have never seen the field. Chances are if they graduate this year, they find jobs and move on with their lives.

And on their own terms, scholarship or not. They may, and they may not move on. If they don't their scholarships will be honored. Grad school is way cheaper when free.

Quit ripping on kids just because they don’t become the starter you unrealistically expected them to be when they signed on. With over 100 players on the team, it’s naïve to think every kid is going to be a starter or even a significant contributor on game days. That is not to say they don’t have value because most do by adding depth and pushing the starters in practice. It is for this reason I hate it when the idiots suggest a kid was a “bust” if they saw little or no playing time during their careers. With 22 starters and maybe a similar number of regular contributors, it’s a simple numbers game. Figure it out.

Your first mistake is that you are comparing the #3 Center recruit in his class to two guys recruited by a HC that was terrible at getting good OL talent.

I know that one of the McAvoys is a team leader in community service and that is important.

Campion, Gjere, Epping, E. Olson, T. Olson, Wills, Lenkiewicz, Michel. Interesting that he was so terrible at getting OL talent considering he's been gone 4 years and is still responsible for 3/5 starting linemen this year (and would be at least 4/5 if not for Gjere's concussion, and possibly even 5/5 with Michel, though that's purely conjecture).

I knew I'd hear from you as I didn't look to deep, however the eye test IMO shows much better OL play under Kill and Limegrover. My opinion of Brewster's recruiting is clouded by his lack of coaching. Injury bug really has hindered the evaluation of the talent.
