I didn't see it, but Doogie tweeted this:

Mbakwe w/ @JCLong on @KSTP Sports Wrap: "I'm definitely leaning toward staying." Certainly not a shock, but noteworthy.

I know a lot of people are convinced that Mbakwe is leaving for the NBA, but I just don't see it happening. I expect him back, along with Sampson and Williams. I think the Gophers will be much deeper and much more athletic next year.

If everyone comes back....and the PG can play at all.....MN is a top 25 team next year.....

When we had Joseph coming back next year, I was saying top 10 if the freshmen could play.

Agreed, 100%. However, as always, the turnover is the real key. If we can keep guys together, I think this team could be something special next year.

The three frosh have had limited game experience this year.
Two frosh guards coming in.
Possibly a juco pg coming in.

Now matter how you look at it that is a very inexperienced back court.

Those kinds of quotes are mostly meaningless at this time of year. Nobody says "I'm leaving" when there are still games to be played. Moreover, these kids change their minds on a regular basis, especially once it gets close to the time to declare and the dollar signs start entering their brains, and agents are dropping hints about how good they are.

Agree. "Leaning" isn't exactly definitive. The last two years should tell us we don't have a clue as to what will happen next.

I just hope that, whatever advice he gets, is accurate and quality. Perhaps he gets a few teams looking at him in that late first round. I just don't wanna see the guy leaving, thinking he'll be a 1st round pick, then end up sliding into non-guarantee money, then a lockout and no training camp to prove himself and suddenly, he's kinda left hanging.

The easy answer at this time of year is 'I'll discuss it with Tubby/family after the season.' So the fact that he is offering a more clear answer is positive.

Things can change, but I saw the segment and feel much better about the chances of him coming back next year. A lot of times guys will toe the line and talk about evaluating all of their options, but he was fairly quick in his response that he was DEFINITELY leaning toward staying.

I hate to say it but I think Trevor has proven himself unpredictable. Too many HS's, a college transfer, and so on. I want him to be here next year and truthfully I don't think he'll leave, but, his history has shown, we won't know, until next season.

No way he's a better shooter than Hoffarber, but that's encouraging at least. It'll be interesting to see how good he really is next year. Hollins will be a more than adequate shooter next year and if we get Welch he'll at least be a threat from outside as well.

On the coach's radio show, Tubby said Oto was the best shooter on the team.

FWIW, I watched Oto shoot briefly on the FSN's Gopher Basketball with Tubby Smith and his form looks like that of a solid shooter. Definitely much better looking form than any of the freshman gaurds this year.

If...

1) Everyone is back (Ralph, Trevor, Rodney)
2) Andre is a viable PG option that can get to the basket
3) Oto can shoot the three-ball

...I'm fairly confident that we will be safely in the tourney next year. I am not sure why I say these things though, because considering how the past two years have played out, something negative is seemingly bound to happen.

I'm assuming he meant he's the best returning shooter on the team....at least I hope that's what he meant, cause I just can't believe he could be better than Hoff, I can't. Plus, you gotta do it in game situations, which for some guys, can be an issue.

I felt that with Devoe and Nolen at the point (this year) we would have taken third in the Big Ten with a Sweet Sixteen type run in us. I was probably wrong but not too far off imo. Next year will take every once of good luck not used over the years for us to get a top five finish in the Big Ten, but it could happen. The Big Ten isn't 'that' good right now and next years top teams are taking hits with some top players leaving. Good luck is very much needed.

you guys are all dreaming, everything will go wrong that could possibly go wrong with next season's basketball team. oh wait, that was this year. Hopefully that means all we have next year is good luck?
