First let me preface by saying I LOVE Trevor on the floor. He is one amazing basketball athlete. I sure hope he stays for his senior year.

He has publicly stated he has goals of leading the Big Ten in rebounds and blocked shots and I have to think he has a chance to do so.

Driving home from the game last night another possible Big Ten record crossed my mind that Trevor may threaten. Missed free throws! We know Trevor will get to the line a lot. We also know he will miss a lot.

I have to wonder what the record is for missed free throw attempts in a Big Ten season. Does he have a shot at it?

I for one am ok with this possibility because a side affect of Trevor visiting the line a lot is the opposition players getting into foul trouble.

I kept yelling at our wings, "GO INSIDE !! GO INSIDE!!".

Am I off base?

You're right on, except I am not OK with the possibility of Trevor setting any kind of dubious record. But he is going to put a lot of guys in foul trouble this year - including himself if he's not careful.

I love his post-dunk scream, you can hear it loud and clear across the arena (and the radio). So much energy to the team and crowd.

I agree, the scream is awesome.

I did a quick check of current Big Ten stats and found this:

Free Throw Attempts per game/Misses per game

Mbakwe 7.6 / 3.3
Sullinger 7.2 / 2.2
Watford 7 / 1.1
Shurna 7 / 2.3
J. Johnson 6.3 / 2

He is getting fouled 7.5 times per 40 minutes, good for 32nd in the country and is 15th in the country in free throw rate, with as many free throws as shot attempts. Crazy stats. On average he puts an entire front court in foul trouble on his own.

Stay for his Senior Year? Where would he go? Transferring again? LOL :cool02:

I don't get the scream. Act like you've been there before. Do you see Hoffbauer scream every time he hits a 3 - which is worth more points BTW. This goes for a lot college players. What is this.....women's tennis?

At least Tubby seems to be coaching good FT shooting defense. We're holding opponents to under 70% from the line this year. They probably see all the bricks we are putting up and think it must be impossible to make a FT.

Thanks, I got a good laugh from this one!

Laugh all you want, but for the last several years the Gophers were getting KILLED in free-throw defense, like 300th in the nation for several years in a row. Now if they could only play defense against free throws.

Speaking of free throw defense, that is the only gripe I have with the student section. For the most part they are great loud, and into the game, but only a third of the section even wave their arms around. The barnyard needs to organize something to throw off the visiting shooters.

My favorite last year was when the entire section sat down except for the guy in the Green Man costume doing the Charlie Day dance.

I would hope that Tubby would quash the scream the moment JuJuan Johnson is halfway down the court getting position on the block while Mbakwe's vocal chords are recovering. Hoffbauer? This is a gopher board, no? Is this an inside GopherHole joke or something? That's not exactly a typo.

Art and his ...Hoffbauer...

Art, you are a hoot to me. But then I enjoy diarrhea and hemorrhoids.

Of course Art doesn't 'get' the scream. He's a bitter old man who doesn't understand the enthusiasm of the younger generation. If it was up to him, we'd still be using a peach basket, shooting underhand, and probably a couple of other things that he'll never admit publicly...just subtly allude to.

I "get" the scream. It's an arrogance thing like when Kim Royston or No Play Traye Simmons used to celebrate a tackle chest bump after a 20 yard gain. Like I said, you don't see Hoffberger or Joseph scream when they hit a 3.

BTW, I'm no old man. In fact, I would probably get carded before Mbakwe at any bar or club and I think he's got more kids than I do...

LOL! You can't mock his rebounding skills anymore, so now you're going after a post-dunk yell? Wow, that's getting pretty desperate. Is his haircut next?

Unless he's wearing red and white polyester, Ol' Artie will always find something to mock. He's so clever that way.

Must get pretty boring over there deep-throating Bucky, eh Art?

It's not uncommon. Many players do this after a dunk but you only seem interested in going after the one you don't like.

Really? I didn't notice :cool02:

It's an across the board issue. Like i said, act like you've been there before...and then get back on defense.

LOL! Bo Ryan screams at the refs all game long and I've never heard a peep out of you. Mbakwe does it for 2 seconds and all of a sudden he's arrogant. At least Mbakwe actually did something productive to warrant the scream. What a hypocrite...

Art seems to be like a lot of Minnesotans in that if someone else is appearing to be having some fun, then by god, that isn't right. Minnesota fun haters.

Its basketball for cripes sakes. Its a freaking game. They aren't curing cancer.

If a kid decides he wants to scream after he dunks, fine. Let him.

Probably more productive to direct your outrage towards something that might actually have an impact on the world. Trevor screaming after a dunk is a good ways down the list of things to direct one's ire toward.

But, again, most Minnesotans are offended if someone is enjoying themselves. God forbid there's some levity at a college basketball game.

And for the record, I've seen many, many times where Blake has either screamed after hitting a 3-point shot or chest bumped a guy after nailing a 3-pointer or pumped his fist or shown any number of happy emotions.

No fun! No happiness! No celebration!

Sorry Coach...

Have we ever noticed Trevor not getting back on defense after a screaming dunk? Just a question. Or, to phrase it another way, is the scream in any way stopping him from getting back?
