Some prognosticators have predicted that Brosmer could be selected on Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft. If that ends up happening, Brosmer would be the first Gophers quarterback drafted since 1972 when Craig Curry was selected by the Miami Dolphins.

Go Gophers!!

Craig Curry: 2nd team all B10

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_Curry_(quarterback)

The 71' squad finished 4-7, 3-5 7th in B10. Average attendance was 34k, which seems really low.
First time with 3 losing seasons in a row since the late 50s and only the second time in school history

Warmath’s last year
He won a national title But at that point he had the only two streaks of 3 consecutive losing seasons in a row in school history.
1971

Meanwhile the Vikings had their fourth consecutive playoff appearance in a row

The two things in gopher history that could’ve made the gophers be a blue blood today, in my opinion, is hiring bud wilkinson OR throwing a bag of money at bud grant in 1971 to move from the nfl to college. If you wrote a big enough check he may have done it

Game has changed so much. Curry never completed 50% of his passes, but I always enjoyed watching him the rare times that the Gophers were on television. Talk about a guy who could throw across his body and deliver a bullet. Looking back at the stats, Doug Kingsriter was his most reliable receiver. WR corps included Jumpin' Jim Brunzell.

Also, this was when the Administration had peaked in their desire to not only end support for football, but was in the attempted process of trying to eliminate it. Football=Vietnam=hate.

Bud understood money (thats why he played CFL). With enough he would have moved I suspect. Can anyone post the NFL money VS college money back then?

No idea on the money comparison but the Vikings were so new and the nfl not what it was. There was a greater than zero chance the Vikings didn’t last more than 10-15 years in the market. Obviously they they did

Not sure why there is a "laugh" reaction to this. It's 100% true. And president Malcolm Moos was an unabashed anti-sports president.
Also, this is the period the Minnesota Professional Sports Cabal formed and did their best to keep Gopher athletics down :ROFLMAO:

From 1971-1982 it was the best years of gopher hoops in the history of the program also won 3 national titles in hockey.

I think you can make a good argument that football didn’t get the support but it wasn’t like all sports were a disaster
